Pain of Salvation
Ever heard of them? Damn good progressive band.
Hard to explain their sound....i'd say... a mix between Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, and Iced Earth. i think thats a fairly good description of them. I'd recommend them to anyone who like Maiden (zoner) or those bands above, doubt you'd be disappointed. |

Listen to it all the way through. I love how they switch genres in practically a split second in the same song.

More cynically, one might say this loose category encompassed anyone who didn't play straight-up rock but projected aspirations to artistic grandeur. Even more cynically, one could say almost anything that would shake up your acid trip (as opposed to making you shake your ass) fell under this umbrella ... ;-) A lot of the British bands began experimenting with strange and novel things after Rubber Soul turned them on to the fact that a rock / pop group could actually write and arrange their own original material to nice effect.. ( edited because I know no one would want to to read it all. happy: ) |
