As much as i love the ramones, they didnt start punk. They just played it. IN fact they came into the scene quite a while after "Punk" started. Id probably say Iggy pop and the Stooges started punk.

btw RIP

Malcolm Mclaren "invented" punk when he "created" the Sex Pistols, despite that bands playing/dressing this grenre existed before both. Iggy was on the scene from the start for sure...

Short Hand 09-17-2004 05:09 PM

OMG ELVIS WAS SOOO FIRST PUNK !

bukdez 09-17-2004 05:10 PM

good one... not...

Pyro 09-17-2004 05:10 PM

RIP, though though they are in one of the genres of music I hate. The Ramones were actually amazing.

Pyro 09-17-2004 05:11 PM

and also...Iggy Pop and The stooges own as well.

you are a fucking retard, james is 100% right, besided how could the sex pistols start punk when the ramones released an album before the pistols?

Fireal 09-17-2004 05:42 PM

Bukdez. I love you, dont get me wrong. But The Sex Pistols first album was released in 1976 (im pretty sure) The Stooges put out the best punk album ever made IMO "Fun House" in 1970. I believe they had a cd out in '69, but im not positive on that one. Im sure of fun house though

Scalping Chief 09-17-2004 05:44 PM

no, i know... i'm saying that Iggy and others were on the scene making music and such, but "punk" as a style/genre wasn't really realized until bands like the Sex Pistols (who exisited prior to 76 but only got major recognition for NMtBHtSP) brought it out of underground scenes... esssentialy punk existed, it just hadn't been officially "named" or whatever, but i would agree with you in your assertion that Iggy is likely the grand-daddy of punk...

strvs 09-17-2004 08:58 PM

Im fucking positive there were bands playing punk before the explosion.

Its impossible to say who started punk, its completely illogical.

Himmler 09-17-2004 09:27 PM
