I bought my first car today
i got a 1988 Jeep Charokee and it runs great considering how old it is. its a standard, and it is a bitch to learn how to drive one. i was going around my block, and stalled the fucking thing on a hill i was sitting there for like ten mintues. any tips on driving standard?
|
if your stalling, give more gas.
On steep hills, set your emergency brake and releaseonce you've reveved up the engine to keep from rolling back. noob biggrin: |
ouch man, a 1988 jeep cherokee. I cant seem to drive standard trannys either, i never seem to be able to give it enough gas.
sorry dude, but i have a 2001 jeep cherokee automatic biggrin: |
for 500 bucks it was steal, it runs prefect im just a retard who cant drive a manul
|
find the hot spot on your clutch / ggas switch ratio, then when your switching to first rev up to about 2000 rpm, then release the clutch and press the gas steadily. then go. thats the best from getting moving from first, on a hill use your parking brake if in hand form. practice, find your hot spot, and your good, in a month it will be no problem, and get some high mileage oil in the thing, espcially if its stadard.
|
my lebaron is a 5 speed, I knew how to drive one before I bought it but never actully had to drive on highways or in the city before. :ets just say its taken me about a week to get used it. Dont worry you will get a hang of it soon. have fun offroading in that thing. Jeeps seem to hold their resale very well.

hot spot oOo:
just practice pratice pratice fun fun fun |
thats what it fucking is jackass.

Hot spot?
Its called a Friction point where your clutch grabs and you go. Give it more gas, whenever i drive a standard i tend to like shifting at specific rpm shifting at 10,20,30 is so boring and it feels like it takes you forever to get going. Speedshifting=god if you wanna have a little fun dont let off the gas while you clutch, its gonna jerk you around its called powershifting. You might be able to get differnt clutches, id recomend a stiffer clutch itll grab better. |

hot spot, friction spot... friction causes heat same thing yadda yadda. ugh. + lets give this guy advice on how to drive safely and properly before he starts to get into other shit, last thing you want is to be sending him into a expensive noise situation. he just learning stick ffs.
+ Lev you of all people should know, if he picked up this old cherokee for 500, beating the piss out of it is not the smartest thing to do. going easy on her, daily is a better idea then being spiffy. not to mention he is a new to stick. |
i love driving manual's but i have a auto wallbash:
|
thanks short hand, im not trying to beat the shit outa it, im not rich so it has to last, i can shift while im driving, its a bitch to start off, there burn out marks all over my block, hahaha

run it into the ground rock:

ouch
older jeeps have a rough ride I hear. OH and if your clutch is releasing high(the pedal is almost all the way back into position, then your clutch might be close to dead. the lower it releases usually the better.) IF your clutch is gone then get a new one obviously. And with it you shoul notice a huge diference in shifting and starting. |
i prefer cars.

heh nothing like my 2001 honda accord sedan rock:

Im not saying he has to powershift it, but speedshifting is the ultimate thing in a stick. Nothing is more satisfying then taking your automobile out and ripping through the gears.
Is this a 4x4 model? |
