This is true, you can't relate a language to one country b/c that language will spread throughout the world, and the dominate language of that particular country can vary, there is just different dialects of it

I don't think we can call the butchered form of language we speak English.

Someone should just call it American.

Da_Bian 10-07-2004 08:14 PM

In Taiwan, everyone does believe American is a language. Canadian is a seperate language, as well as Australian and the UK.

There's English language schools here with names like "Lets Go American Language School", "American Language Center" etc.... gets rather retarded.

You should see the job ads. "Prefer north American accent, female......" bla bla. Some even say they want a white person.
Rather racist, sexist and whatever other ist you can think of.

Anyway, in conclusion, American is not a language. Though, there are enough retards out there (especially in Taiwan) believe it is.

P.S. Yes, I'm an English teacher. (No, not a retarded Taiwanese, I just live here.)

Canada's version of English is equally/more fooked than the American version. Blame the frogs in Quebec.

my profile, ignorance of alot of americans

@/\/G3L 10-07-2004 09:13 PM

we are american. we dont have moderation.

Pyro 10-07-2004 09:15 PM

American English is just a dumbed down version of British English. Canada's is mroe similar to Britians but we stil change like realise to realize and so on.

Milla 10-07-2004 09:15 PM

So it is technically English not American

An easier version of it yes.

Pyro 10-07-2004 09:16 PM

America has no official language or so somebody told me last week, I don't know if it's true.

@/\/G3L 10-07-2004 09:18 PM

Spanish will be more widely spoken in about 15 years in america. close the border and set up snipers and it wont be.

bukdez 10-07-2004 09:19 PM

English is a language, of which Americans, Canadians, Brits, New Zealanders, Aussies, etc. speak a dialect of... We all speak the same language just a different version...

If 'American' was a language, then would it not have to be further devided into local "languages", when i hear someone from Louisiana speak, it sounds very different than someone from Boston, or Jersy even...

@/\/G3L 10-07-2004 09:19 PM

so this whole thing is about accents.

bukdez 10-07-2004 09:23 PM

[quote="@/\/G3L":06e3a]so this whole thing is about accents.[/quote:06e3a]

and colloquialisms... and in extreme cases patois...

Pyro 10-07-2004 09:24 PM

favourite > favorite

it just looks so stupid without the u.

realise > realize as well

I dont think the american version of english really incorperates silent letters that much either, just seems to be a "spell it how you say it" line of thinking.
