Computer Problem

My brother seemed to install service pack 2 on the computer upstairs.

Now everytime the computer loads up it goes past the windows home screen and then stays on a black screen. It won't let me go into Safe Mode and when i try to boot it by using the last good time it worked it stops off the dick check and stays on that blue screen.

Anybody know what to do?

TonyMontana 10-28-2004 11:58 AM

format c

Besides formatting is their any other way. We don't have Windows to install anymore.

Anita_Man 10-28-2004 12:02 PM

dont use a pirated vesion of windows.

bukdez 10-28-2004 12:02 PM

can you somehow system restore?... or make any changes in bios?...

TonyMontana 10-28-2004 12:03 PM

That's why I didnt install SP2, I've heard only bad things about it

bukdez 10-28-2004 12:05 PM

i had no problems with it... untill my HD crashed and now has to be replaced... but i don't think the two are related...

Bucknub 10-28-2004 12:08 PM

only option is to format c

i duno if u can do this, but try unplugging the c drive into ur other comp and set it to slave and drag all the contents off it that u want to save and then format, that's if its possible

Pyro 10-28-2004 12:08 PM

[quote="Anita_Head":5c170]dont use a pirated vesion of windows.[/quote:5c170]

We used an original copy, just it wasn't ours.

can you explain the second part?

bukdez 10-28-2004 12:12 PM

when your system boots up, you can press DEL (delete) to enter set-up, see if anything in those options can help you or give more info...

Pyro 10-28-2004 12:13 PM

alright i haven't done that

bukdez 10-28-2004 12:15 PM

likely there won't be much in there to help, but at least you'll be able to see if the HD is configured, and check temperature etc...

Ok, no problem, Bush.

Mr_Gl@ss 10-28-2004 03:23 PM

so what happens when u try to go into safe mode? That's your best shot me thinks, then do a system restore. Nother option is to boot off of "your" XP CD and reinstall/repair. Dunno, sounds like it's time to format c: If you want to give SP2 a go agian (i know it's crazy) uninstall any Virus Scan progs and Firewalls first. Then install afterwards. Also take a look at the list of "bad" apps for SP2 just for kicks:

When trying to enter safe mode, it goes to a black screen and shows a bunch of commands like c:/whatever until it egts down tot he bottom of the page with white text then does nothing more.

1st -Only one solution to this, if you have the windows CD handy... you have to run a windows repair. (Thus repairing any problesm.) just plop the disk in on boot up and it should be an option to do.

2nd option = sadly... a format.

Ok, 1st go here:
http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.p ... 479c6&f=16
and post your problem

I would recommend a nice clean reformat and install WinXP then service pack-2. You probably won't have any trouble once WinXP is installed new.

Remove all usb devices then reboot.
SP2 includes the Driver Protection feature, which helps protect operating system stability by preventing the operating system from loading drivers that are known to cause stability problems.
