when i was about 10 or 11, I was on the city bus on the way to school... The high school nearby had a program for retarded people... I heard two of them talking on the bus, one asked the other what he wanted to be when he grew up... The other answered "probably just another dumb retard"... It was pretty sad...

well if they can differentiate being retarded and not retarded, why don't they just be not retarded?

ok, no offence but you are retarded... i can differentiate between black and white, so can i just be black now?... they might know they are retarded, but the problems with thier brain don't allow them to learn beyond a certain level... some retarded people make a huge effort, my old teachers brother was retarded and had a 5th grade learning level (he was like 40 years old), and he worked and learned everyday until he could function at around a grade 8 or nine level... some retards probably work and try harder than many of us...

Suppose its possible they see themselves as normal and everyone else as being different.

Yeah its a huge effort for them to even try and function the way most of us do and take for granted everyday.

this is exactly when Im asking. if a non retarded person like you and me knows the difference between being black and white, and you wanted to act black well, then we can just act black, same goes for a retard, if they know they're retarded and are differnt from being normal, why cant they just act like they're normal.

oOo: I assume your doctor is kidding you, but to answer your question, the word RETARD literally means SLOW LEARNER... It is only possible for retards to function at a certain level, they may know that they are retarded, especially in mild cases, but simply lack the brain power and mechanisms to function beyond or well beyond that level... It is NOT a choice, they are limited in thier personality and actions by the level of brain power they posses... therefore, most retarded people can NOT act like they're 'normal' people...

but most 'normal' people have no trouble acting like retards...

there is a retard program at my school, freaking awsome, they get to go on feild trips every friday and they get out of school about 1 hour early and get longer lunch, guess the only downside is that there retarded...
