[quote:9f21a]NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) -- Baggage screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport spotted -- and then lost -- a fake bomb planted in luggage by a supervisor during a training exercise. Despite an hours-long search Tuesday night, the bag, containing a fake bomb complete with wires, a detonator and a clock, made it onto an Amsterdam-bound flight. It was recovered by airport security officials in Amsterdam when the flight landed several hours later. "This really underscores the importance of the TSA's ongoing training exercises," said Ann Davis, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration, the agency responsible for screening passengers and baggage for weapons and explosives. "At no time did the bag pose a threat and at no time was anyone in danger." Earlier this month, French authorities lost a bag containing real explosives that were being used to train bomb-sniffing dogs. That led French authorities to prohibit using live explosives in future tests. The incident at Newark Liberty International was only the latest embarrassment for screeners at one of the airports from which some of the September 11, 2001 hijackers took off. In October, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported that screeners missed one in four fake explosives and weapons in secret weekly tests conducted throughout the summer by TSA agents. In Tuesday night's test, a TSA supervisor secretly placed the bomb, which was designed to resemble the plastic explosive Semtex, inside a bag that was put through screening machines, Davis said. A baggage screening machine sounded an alarm, but workers somehow lost track of the bag, which was then loaded onto a Continental Airlines flight. Despite the incident, no flights were delayed and the terminal remained open. Davis said the TSA is still investigating how screeners lost track of the bag. "It was an error that the bag was not intercepted before it was loaded," she said, adding it was too soon to say if anyone would be disciplined for the failure. do we even really need it?

Clearly it wouldn't work "Hitting a bullet with a bullet" approach is pretty oOo:

What happens when this becomes operational and China wants to do something similar? Do they have the right to do the same thing or take it a step further? If the US can do it, I think the Chinese can. They've already put a man into space under their own power and technology. People ahve been saying this could create an arms race, and to a degree I believe it could happen. I have mixed feelings on the subject. I don't think it's necessary, but it's going to happen anyway. Therefore I don't want to be left out of it if its happening anyway, so in that way i support it, even if that is a stupid reason for supporting it.

I do think we will be at war with china within the next 10 years or so

aa.com vs china, who would win?

I've been saying this for the past couple of years.....i'm more concerned with whats going on in the Asian countries (N. Korea & China) than anything else. I predict some sort of major problem in the very near future with them.

China has way too much riding on the success of our economy to attack us or try and start something. The amount of US dollars privately invested in China is ridiculous... they desperately need to keep that $ there.

America at war with china would be fun and games, all a bunch of dick waving "omg look at our noookes" bullshit.
2 countries yet probably most of the world would suffer from it. rolleyes: |

China actually has the potential to be the most powerful nation, millitary wise in the world due to its enormous population. However, the troops are undisciplined, poorly trained, poorly armed, and poorly equiped. It would be like another Iraq war, except with a lot more people.
|
Strength lies in numbers. I think that still applies today. Especially with China.
