2nd Job Choices

As most of you dont know, i work an overnight job 40 hours a week. For most this would mean sleeping the day away. However i dont sleep all that much leaving me with an over abundance of free time to sit on my ass doing nothing. Most would enjoy this free time, i do not. I dont like feeling this lazy, let alone actually acting this lazy.

Naturally i've been pondering for some time about filling my day time hours with a second job. This should be a simple task right, walk in to a bunch of places and fill out an application. The problem here is that im not exactally a nice person, with a fairly low tollerance for most of the population, kids taking the cake. I have worked retail as a salesman and can most times cover my hatred for others long enough to clear a shift. That was in the past, im far more filled with intollerance and hate than i was back then.

To cut this down, what are some places i can work 20 hours a week with a fairly regular schedule. With the stipulations that i should probably enjoy going to it, or atleast like something about it. I come to you since i cant really think of many jobs where i have minimal interaction with people, so try to keep that in mind.

landscape company, they will throw you on a mower for the day (seasonal of course)

Nyck 01-13-2005 04:03 PM

Fluffer in Van Nuys...

Jin-Roh 01-13-2005 04:05 PM

Are you a work-a-holic? oOo:

Arkan 01-13-2005 04:11 PM

I never knew you to be a scumbag towards people...i'm quite suprised.

Anywho, ever think of a store greeter? That should break you from your bad dealings with people !! biggrin:

Sergeant_Scrotum 01-13-2005 04:13 PM

I know what your feeling. You could be work at a grocery store. Their are lots of neat things you can do that don't involve people.

Jin-Roh 01-13-2005 04:14 PM

Start your own business that doesn't involve people.

UPS - 21 hours a week and you could probably get an early morning shift so you could go straight from one job to the next.

imported_Grim_Reaper 01-13-2005 04:18 PM

janitor? i dunno what job involves little people skills. in my free time, i just go to a gym. it works, plus can help get a good night's sleep

[DAS REICH] Blitz 01-13-2005 04:52 PM

Noctis's idea seems to be the best, although working at grocery store would be pretty slick.

Coleman 01-13-2005 05:23 PM

staples like nyck

Arkan 01-13-2005 05:35 PM

Yeah, i agree some sort of "Stocking" job would be good. Don't have to deal with people that much.

Sgt>Stackem 01-13-2005 05:37 PM

the UPS thing is good, I did that part time for a while and it pays well for a PT job and you get insurance!

Coleman 01-13-2005 05:50 PM

Then you can do a TV show like "King of Queens" in your own town.

UPS is sick.

They pay you like $8.50/hr starting out and after 3 months or something you get their benefits. And UPS insurance is 100% free. You don't have to pay anything out of your paycheck. It's leet. Buddy of mine works for em.

I heard the trick to being a delivery man is driving slow and taking your time, the longer you're out, the more money you get. biggrin:

Drew 01-13-2005 07:45 PM

You get bonuses for finishing early, though. Bonuses > regular pay

Plus, you're only allowed so much time over your schedule before you get written up.

Poseidon 01-14-2005 01:29 AM

Im intrequed by this UPS idea, though im not to interested in being a driver, since this is the seattle area and driving one of those trucks has to be a pain. I know someone has to load those trucks, but what time does that ussually take place. My job is acctually right next to a UPS depo and about 6 - 7 in the morning you get the flood of trucks heading out. So i assume its a night process, but do they also have a morning/afternoon shift?

It really depends on what kind of UPS place you work. If you have a hub in Seattle, they have shifts around the clock. If it's a truck loading spot, I think the shifts are a little different. But it takes years to be a driver anyway, you have to start out loading trucks.

HeadUp 01-14-2005 11:10 AM

you should go check it out

another thing you could check out might be warehouse work, just driving around a forklift for like 11/hr

Be a clown. Then maybe you codul learn to be nice.

Doctor Duffy 01-14-2005 06:29 PM

Real working men mow lawns in their spare time...

...why dont you, you know, relax in your free time? You'd be too stressed out to manage 2 jobs..

imported_Grim_Reaper 01-14-2005 06:32 PM

UPS isnt necessarily a driving job, my dad works in building maintenance but he used to be a mechanic there. loading stuff is probably your best bet

Doctor Duffy 01-14-2005 06:36 PM

Hey, guys, I'm wondering, my dad MAY lose his job the 25th of this month. He has a bad knee, arthritis, and isnt physically fit, as he's pretty fat ( I know its a horrible thing to call your own dad, but Im telling the truth).

He used to do things called "Telecom" at ATT. You think he could do UPS? I mean..doesnt that require a lot of carrying boxes around and stuff?

Oh, BTW, he's 58 years old.
