How to Avoid a Hang-over

I know you can't fully avoid a hang-over; however there are some ways to atleast lessen the madness that faithful morning after drinkin'. (chaser doesn't work, tried it, it's bull-shit). I'm talking about home remedies.

I've heard of many, such as : Drinking alot of water oOo: , Eating Alot of food before and while drinking oOo: and so on. Tried them all, still got smashed the next morning.

The best that has worked for me, is milk. Right after you finish drinking, drink a big glass of milk. Did this on New Years Eve and on the 1st i was ok, just tired, no big headache.

So what do you young fellas do to avoid the motha trucking hang-over?

01-22-2005 10:19 PM

never got a hangover or puked, no matter how badly drunk i was...its like a natural "acceptance" to alcohol...so i cant help you there.

Doctor Duffy 01-22-2005 10:22 PM

The largest amount of alcohol I've ever had is a miniature cup of Pepto Bismol.

01-22-2005 10:27 PM

thats a good duffy duck.

Bucknub 01-22-2005 11:10 PM

ate some bread before hand. so the bread absords the alcohol. Have plenty of water afterwards. and if I feel Like throwing up and it wont come out, then I just shove my finger down my throat and make myself throw up. I feel much better afterwards.

elstatec 01-22-2005 11:14 PM

sleep it off.

Arch 01-22-2005 11:16 PM

Ok, well, i wasn't really asking for advice. Just was curious at what other people did. oOo:

Miscguy 01-23-2005 05:21 AM

I've actually heard that the next morning just have another beer. It may seem like the last thing in the world you want to drink but appairently it works.

Short Hand 01-23-2005 06:23 AM

make a rail and take a huge whiff my firend.

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 01-23-2005 10:02 AM

Best way is to make yourself puke up, all that alcohol is still in your system & you need to get out out by puking up & also drink lots of water.

Sgt>Stackem 01-23-2005 10:14 AM

2 asprin and eat a banana before bed. It sounds crazy but it helps.

Johnj 01-23-2005 10:28 AM

Mmmmmm good.

Art Attack 01-23-2005 11:18 AM

So what do you young fellas do to avoid the motha trucking hang-over?

I'm not going to read all the replies to this, but I'll summarize by telling you that you are completely wrong.

There are four major causes of hangovers, listed in order of how common each is:

1) Dehydration. This is the number one cause of hangovers. Drinking water actually WILL prevent most hangovers, but you have to do it during the period when you're sobering up, not before or while you drink as the alcohol (which is a diuretic) will simply flush that fluid out right along with all the rest.

2) Toxins/Poisons. Most alcohol has mild toxins or poisons in it. The second most common cause of a hangover is a high level of poisons or toxins in your blood stream. The only way to avoid this is to avoid cheap alcohol. For instance, don't drink vodka that's only been distilled once or twice.

3) Malnutrition. Alcohol can actually strip your body of necessary nutrients necessary to a feeling of well-being. These include dangerously lowering your blood sugar and certain minerals. This is usually associated with binge drinking.

4) Acute withdrawal. This is basically where you consumed so much alcohol (your brain cells actually change to react to the alcohol in your blood stream) that you immediately experience withdrawals from the substance. Obviously, as above, the only way to avoid this is not to binge drink.

Now, how can you actually effectively avoid a hangover?

I'm not sure how or why (could just be coincidence) drinking milk worked for you. This is actually one of the worst things you can do as the alcohol can actually accelerate the curdling of the milk in your stomach which can make you VERY sick.

The best thing you can do is never pass out drunk. Always force yourself to stay awake until you start sobering up and then start drinking water (at least one full glass). It's also a good idea to eat something without a lot of dairy product in it. Eating before and after drinking actually is a good idea because it significantly decreases the potency of the alcohol in your stomach. Remember, if you get drunk, by the time you sober up you are dehydrated. You have to drink water AFTER you've started sobering up.

Anyway, hope this helps you noobs.

OMG Thanks Noctis, beer: know i can go drink my ass off oOo:

Wouldn't jerking it also help?Or big 9.

Scalping Chief 01-23-2005 01:06 PM

best way to cure a hangover is more beer.

Tripper 01-23-2005 02:39 PM

It's pretty straightfoward really. I always stay up for as long as possible til I start sobering up. That's why you'll often come across drunken late-night messages from myself because I tend to go on the net to keep myself awake.

My cure has always been the same, huge glass of water and 2 paracetamol pills. (Panadol, Nurofen etc). Wake up with limited hang-over syptoms, and sometimes none at all.

rdeyes 01-23-2005 02:44 PM

dont mix your alcohol

liquior before beer have no fear
beer after liquior never sicker

my granddpa told me that and i follow it to this day

Coleman 01-23-2005 02:46 PM

Forte 01-23-2005 02:56 PM

Chaser tablets. have one before you drink and it stops a hangover. cause you know what you see on tv works.
