More PC Help (Sound Card)
Okay, so. My computer came with a Soundblaster Live! stock.
Then, after I got the computer, I installed an Audigy2 ZS. The problem I am having is that I can't get the 5.1 to work on my PC. Why? Well, it seems that they share drivers and the computer can't discern between the two cards. When I do the test from the Creative software panel the test sounds play through my headphones which are hooked up to the Live! card instead of the speakers which are hooked up to the Audigy card. I checked my sound settings through the Windows control panel and the computer is set to use the Audigy card. Any ideas? |

You've got this set correctly, right?

if one of them is a onboard card, you have to disable it in the bios i believe

It's not an onboard card. I've always used two separate sound cards.
I use the cheaper one for my gaming headsets and the nice one for my surround sound system and my high quality headphones. I've never had a problem before, but I've always had two different brands. (i.e., Turtle Beach and Creative). I e-mailed tech support.. don't know what else to do. |
Creative has the shittiest drivers ever. Good luck with solving your problem. Tech support will probably tell you to buy another Creative.

happy: If I were you Noctis I'd uninstall both cards and the drivers, and then reinstall the ZS on it's own. |

disable the onboard sound in the bios on startup.

yup, i have 2 computes sitting side by side ... i wanted to out one to the second in and was having problems with my main computer only sometimes picking up the line from the second , so i email their tech. the guy replies ... "Why would you want to do that?" and thats it. |
I know this wont help, and will just make you frustrated, but I cant understand why you decided to post this question here and not customer service, or some geek-site, like http://www.planethardware.com (or hardwareplanet.com) if thats still alive..the forum community definently was, I know that for sure.

The problem is that Creative releases drivers which apply to nearly all of their products and they don't build in any way for the computer to differentiate between two cards. The guy finally e-mailed me back and told me to uninstall both and re-install the one I want oOo: I told him to feck off. I screwed around for hours last night and finally got it working by changing some settings in EAX. wtfever... Creative < *.* |
You should use the ZS and a set of good quality headphones for gaming. spank:

i need some help too
I have the Audigy LS ill use the buttocks pic, since mine is similar. when I set mine to 5.1 and do a channel Test, it only detects my right and left speakers. what gives? I still get sound out of the other speakers, but not when it does the test. knowing that, I dont think im getting the quilty surround sound Im suppose to get out of my speakers. and I have the lastest Drivers. I really would like to use my speakers to their Fullest Potential. are there certain settings I should check off? |
Noct, i know you fixed your problem but i'm perplexed as to why you would want to use two sound cards in the same box. Why not just go with one? Are you using both cards at the same time??
|
Buck.. screw around with your EAX settings. I think what finally did it for me was enabling CMSS 3D.
Arkan.. here is why I use two soundcards. I've got three output mediums: Altec Lansing 5.1 (so-so), an Altec Lansing headset (pretty decent) and a pair of Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones. I obviously want the 5.1 speakers on a good card for movies. I don't want to use the Sony headphones for gaming because the sounds can spike sometimes and I really don't want to blow them. So I have a switch on my good card and I just switch to the less expensive card for gaming which has my headset plugged in. I could probably find another switch or something or other that would negate the need for two sound cards, but why bother. I have it working. |
