forum attack...
 

Some of you remember that my forums was attacked from the inside and all messages were erased. Well this time they took it a step farther... They also took over an admin on my sites site... Im really pissed right now... My forums was a medium sized forums, we were recovering nicely, had slightly more than 1000 posts, 68 members... Ull probably be able to figure out pretty easily what it was about from the title but it was a nice site, we had theories, and discussions about them, it was truly interesting all the things we learned and all the people who got invloved... I guess Im gonna have to start all over from scratch... Considering the fact that he banned all the members's ip's... Im not even sure of how he did it, but he gained acess to the other admins account, destroyed my site, and went onto commandeer his... If you want the links then pm me... I dont feel like posting em here...

I wanna go investigate the crime scene..gimme a link.

hey man, sorry for your loss. I know rebuilding a site of such size is a huge task and my takes a great deal of time - but i might as well be the one to tell you that you should have taken daily or at least weekly backups of the forum.

Hope you manage to recover some of what is lost - and my regards in the rebuilding of the forum.

yes, same ones as last time but somehow they got acess to the other admins account.

Can I ask why, with only 68 members, did you have any admins?

well it gets kinda hard to moderate/keep track of everything on my own. I appointed some1 who i trusted 100%...

OMG! CHANGE YOUR FUCKING PASSWORDS. Anytime I hacked a site (way back in the old days, Im retired now) the admin's passwords were "password" or "star wars" and I had them cracked in about a day.

my pass had nothing to do with the topic... But then again it wasnt my account that they used...

We should all join, and flame the hell outta them.

Same, after reading from the other site, I think they banned most all possible IP's.

You know these guys? Seems like they know you're dad alright...

oh dear - its proboards - this is a free forum provider - i dont think they have weblogs - and you cant access the database or forum files :(

I suggest you get a webhost that allows mysql (there are FEW free ones but not many) then you can host your own forum, and be able to take daily backups of the database and files.

Once you get started again - and find a free host with mysql pm me and i'll gladly help you set it up.


Some people can be real tards - I suggest you NEVER give anyone admin rights - obviously give some people some moderator rights (so they can monitor the forum in general and all posts). On my forum i have one admin - hes one of my best mates so i trust him. Besides he helped mod teh fuck out of the forum so i dont think he's willing to throw away all that time and effort.

just send proboards a support ticket and they can access your board and remove the IP bans he did if you can't get in. When your back in give out global mod staus rather then admin, edit the permissions to suit what you need too.

bad script you should track thier ips and send em something nice, i know youre retired, but this could be some righteous justice, i hate ppl that do shit like that to ppls forums, esp if they didnt do anything to deserve it

I use a different password for every online forum I use.
