Canada narcissist?

Ive noticed recently on tv that, on the media we are always asking how we are in other people eyes. "Well your here in Canada! how was your stay??? Dont you think our trees are nicer that the United States??'" we are alwats checking on our apearance, like a girl in school constaly doing her make up and gazing in the mirrior.

ffs i find humiliating. its almost like we are constantly checking if wea re good enough to compete with the US on the world stage. Its like a sort of jealosy. We are not as powerful, influencial and rich as the US, and most likley never will be.

As most of you know i love my country, but i hate these pussy statements, like a tv show having an episode in canada, then it makes the front page of the paper and is on the news, who cares?

Just be thankful we aren't the United States. Being the most powerful, rich and influential country in the world has many drawbacks...Canada is almost perfect in the way it is...and I doubt we would ever want that to change.

descry 03-29-2005 10:53 AM

definatly not almost perfect. my friend was stabbed to death at a bar on thursday night because his girlfriend threw an ice cube and it hit him...you probably heard about it since the guy was from toronto...not a perfect society.

I know one day you will floor me with something nice to say about the US, oops aboot the US, eh. Canada is what it is, to compare it to the US is apples and oranges. Who gives a rosie rats ass if Canada is like the US? In oredr to be like us they would have to make thier beer weaker and expand thier rights

I've been all over Canada really over fourteen times in my life. Last time I checked, Canadians came in every color, religious, political, lingual, philosophical, regional and economic background imaginable, so "Canadian" is no more a race than "American,","Floridian", "Oklahoman." So anything you have to say about the people of the United States would come off as being hypocritical.

The fact that Television and Beer were mentioned as pros/cons between the countries, only shows me how original and intelligent most of you are....rolleyes: If this continues, this thread will be locked and we'll have a general rule about silly nationalist and/or sterotypical comments.

A nation or a single American/Canadaian/Australian/whatever can't take responsibility for the actions of some or circumstantial problems.

So Maple, my advice to you( in this situation and any other unless your intelligence merits otherwise ) is to consider yourself an individual before a Canadian and not worry what someome does just because they fall in your place of origin's border.

Innoxx 03-29-2005 12:56 PM

I'm with Ferich. Why should it matter where you live? To me, Canada is just land, no more, no less.

In an answer to the original question, I would agree that Canada, in general, has a huge inferiority complex. We are always looking to compare ourselves to others. Especially the US. I think we are so similar in the US in so many ways that it’s almost natural to compare the two. Canada is like the US’s little brother. And when we can “beat” them at something, it’s like the little brother beating the big brother at something. Something to gloat about.

I can tell you that whenever I’m watching an American station and I hear them mention Canada, I always look closely at what their saying. It’s just a habit. To be mentioned by the most powerful country in the world is something of a treat I suppose to many Canadians. So when Americans come here, we feel the need to ask them how does Canada compare to America. We want them to say something good to make us feel good about living here.

Canadians think that others see them as a lesser part when compared to other countries. And for some reason Canadians want to prove this wrong since we know that some of our trees are beautiful and that some of our streets are clean.

When an American comes here, I want to know what they think of the place. I love this country and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but I still want to know what others think for some reason. Call me crazy I guess.

I was there to greet Bush with my middle finger!

Pyro 03-29-2005 01:47 PM

Well when you say it is just a Land...you have to look at the benefits you get...

Like if I was to live in the USA I wouldn't complain at all...but ti would have to be in a northern state.

USA and Canada are prime examples of places you would like to live and im glad they are located right beside each other.

Tripper 03-29-2005 02:23 PM

You guys aren't alone. We demonstrate that behaviour as well. It's a product of having a bigger brother next door. Like us with Australia.

It's a good thing. It's good to have a basis for comparison, you find out alot of things about your own country, and how lucky you are, when you have a bigger country to compare yourself too.

fair Canada

if you want to hear good things then treat people as you would like to be treated. If people have a good time when visiting then good things will be said. Unfortunatly alot has to do with how the govts are working at the time and not nessaraly (sp?) the people
