Two people have been injured - one seriously - after a car "took off" and smashed into the top floor of a house. i forget which 1950s ford car it was but they were real big on back fins then and wanted a new look for the fins so (and i'm guessing an engineer wasn't consulted) instead of having the fins 'taper' off to the rear, they curved them outwards from the side panels. road tests of the car had reports of the back end of the vehicle lifting off the ground by a couple inches or so.

I've never heard of that. The '57[/url:0ad13] had the largest fins for a Ford and those fins were still too upright to provide any lift. The only car with wings instead of fins was the '59[/url:0ad13] Chevy. I have driven one of those at 100MPH without any problems. |

It apparently happened during "road tests" so I assume thats before it was ever distributed to anyone - They probably changed the design after it occured. (You'd hope they would anyway oOo: ) |
