Zoner 07-13-2005 11:35 AM

Anyway, back to hockey...

I can't believe it's (tentatively) over. I can't wait to watch my beloved Oilers lose on my 50" LCD. w00tar!

Anita_Man 07-13-2005 11:38 AM

slap shot was on the other night. thats good hockey. ban:

ninty 07-13-2005 11:40 AM

There are going to be HUGE changes. Not only will all the rule changes make the game look different, but I think the cap will totally skew the game. I guess thats what its supposed to do. I'm sure we'll see a lot of teams release a lot of good played because they can't afford them with all the other players they have under contract.

Zoner 07-13-2005 11:43 AM

I can't wait to see the game under the new rules/system.

Just don't bring in the big nets...that'd just be goofy.

Bucknub 07-13-2005 11:47 AM

woo hoo, only season of going to hooters and getting drunk!

evenflow 07-13-2005 11:49 AM

the extra playoff games is just a cash grab deal for the owners.

good to see it back tho

Bah. What I hate is this is going to dominate sports news forever now. CFL gets put on the backburner.

i can put up with that biggrin:

Zoner 07-13-2005 12:00 PM

That's a small price to pay though isn't it, ninty? Not to belittle the CFL or anything...it really is a great league, despite what our US comrades think.

ninty 07-13-2005 12:14 PM

I like both leagues a lot. I don't like it when guys getting paid 10 million dollars get into a hissy fit, and then when they figure everything out, they get all the attention, while the guys playing for the love of the game because their getting paid $50,000 and have to have a second job to feed their family gets crapped on.

For me, when it’s summer, its football time. I don’t want to hear about the NHL. When its winter, gimmie all the hockey coverage I can get.

Chronic Diarrhea 07-13-2005 12:21 PM

If they would get rid of the fighting I might watch it.

It really doesn't happen THAT often. It's no reason not to watch.

That's what boxing is for. Shows how awesome the sport is when the biggest cheers come from the fights.rolleyes:

Zoner 07-13-2005 12:48 PM

^ That's just not true. It's a stereotype proliferated by media sensationalism.

Chronic Diarrhea 07-13-2005 12:53 PM

Well I've been to a few Dallas Stars games, and it is true. Maybe not up in Canada, where I'm sure the fans appreciate the sport for what is it (much like Canadian wrestling fans appreciate the wrestling aspect).

Ferich 07-13-2005 01:08 PM

Most of the time if I'm going to an AHL or NHL game with friends, it's usually the one who has been to one or two hockey games in his life or someone with only a stereotypical understanding of hockey that says " OH I CANT WAIT TILL THEY FIGHT. "

I'm sure majority of American hockey fans are there for the sport, not just Canadians. It'd be a rather steep generalization to say otherwise.

I know...now they can't win with money anymore...Id be surprised if they even make the playoffs again.

**Right thread

Thats good to know, it was a stupid argument anyways.

Greed leads to anger
Anger leads to hatred
Hatred leads to angst
Angst leads to DA DARK SIDE!!!11!

Now atleast I dont have to worry about following the horrible Colorado Rockies this year. And, while I like playing it, I've never really gotten into football, or understood it much, besides getting the ball, and running to the other side...all those tactics and manuevers make my head spin. Yay, Avalanche.

Arkan 07-13-2005 01:27 PM

Good news, i'll read the link when i have time. As for fighting, it's part of the game. Remove it and it's just not the same 'ol hockey that i'm used to seeing.

Nyck 07-13-2005 02:08 PM

Itll be good for the league. One player cannot make more that 20% of the teams total cap

so if the cap is like 40 mil the max a player could make is 8 million

for instance the avalanche have sakic and blake signed.

but dont have hedjuk, foote, forsberg, or tangay signed...they wont be able to sign all of them.

The wings will look different because of the trimming of alot of the older players

11 million is gone from hull and hasek..they will dump shanny, hatcher, mcCarty and chelios most likely.

In all the wings will have to trim about 12 million off their payroll, the leafs about 8...so dont think you wont be affected.

I think you will see the wings do just as well. Not many of the big money and older players they had even showed up last playoffs

It will be a fun off season.

Hey Zoner, dont forget, we still have our new JR teams to keep us occupied as well. This is great news, hope these greedy players will get back into the game.

The wings will be trimming ALOT MORE then 12 milly.

Tripper 07-13-2005 04:31 PM

Cool, I used to like watching the hockey on zee sports channels....I haven't been able to follow the NHL itself for a long while, almost since I stopped playing myself - I didn't really know hugely about it, learned most of the players from playing the EA games religiously....

Nonetheless, I can appreciate hearing good news....

Nyck 07-13-2005 05:25 PM

Maybe a little more to make some cap room but their payroll last season they played was 77 million. They got rid of 11 million by dumping hasek and hull.

All player salries will be rolled back 24% so that takes off another 16 million on pay roll leaving them at 50 million dollars...salary cap will be around 38 million

50-12 =38..

But they should take a bit more off to feel out FA's and such.

Kthx.

bukdez 07-13-2005 05:29 PM
