Depression

I don't know about anyone else, but it seems to me that all the commercials they have for depression medicines are making people more paranoid about depression. I think people see the commercials and then get into their heads that they are depressed and it is causing people to trick themselves into taking medicine they don't need. I've had people who are depressed tell me their symptoms and they were verbatim from commericals for Wellbutrin....

What do you think?

Giving out placebos to figure the hypochondriacs from the actual sick people works. But no Doctors I know of actually do that.

Zoner 07-20-2005 02:55 PM

Cocaine's a helluva drug.

yeah, that would be a good idea, to get the person started on placeabos and then see if there is something actually wrong from there.

Tripper 07-20-2005 02:57 PM

Give them crack instead of pills that help.

Mr.Buttocks 07-20-2005 03:00 PM

Depression can be defeated with positive thought alone. Heal thyself with your own mind and don't take happy pills.

Also, the Doctor could refer the patient to a Therapist that can prescribe medication. So there's an actual analysis of the symptoms by a psychologist beforehand.

Yeah, its everywhere... scientists are coming up with so many names for every thing that is not "plain and normal" that everyone thinks they have something. "Oh, I didnt get what I wanted for Christmas....I must be depressed"

ninty 07-20-2005 06:27 PM

Personally, I believe that the current generation growing up is fucked. How many kids are on some sort of drug for something? ADD, depression and whatever else. It's ot of hand. It seems, for anything wrong the answer is to go see the doctor and get them to prescribe something. Whose to blame? Parents? Yes. Drug companies? Absolutley.

[quote:93dba]Spending on prescription drugs for infants, children, adolescents and young adults has increased by 85 percent during the last five years, said Medco, which manages prescription drug plans covering 65 million people and operates a mail order pharmacy.

According to the 2002 Medco Drug Trend study, which reviewed the prescription drug use of half a million people under age 19, younger patients are taking 34 percent more medications than they were five years ago, based on days of therapy. [/quote:93dba]

I went to a concert and when I got threre i realized my wallet was empty and I knew there was $100 in it before. Had to take out more money to buy drinks and the night wasn't as good. Luckily I found the wad in my other pants when i got home.

those vaginal itch and herpes commercials make me depressed and confused, like how can those people be so happy? how can someone be smiling about having a dirty pussy? why are they rowing a boat when they have warts on their ass?

I've never had a bad experience with alcohol. I'm usually in a good mood when i start i guess and i never let shit get to me even when i'm sober. I guess that helps.

Some facts:
-25% percent of people in developed and developing countries will experience at least one pyschological disorder in their lives.
-By 2020, depression will become the second leading global cause of death and diasability, after heart disease.
-People from traditional cultures increase their risk of pyschological problems, including schizophrenia, by up to six times when immigrating to developed countries.

Interesting if you ask me, we are in the developed world how come we are so depressed and can't function, whats so depressing? but if you ask me for my opinion on why depression and ADD are in children/teen socities its caused by lack of co-ordination of going outside and staying inside playing games and watching T.V...go outside and get some fresh air.

Don't have as much stuff to keep yourself busy is my guess. I see people reach a point where they're stuck in a job that won't necessarily bring them any joy. They get money sure, but they don't put it to worthwhile use and feel their life is empty. Then they start questioning why they're here and start slowly losing it.

c312 07-21-2005 02:38 PM

i think it's more because we are seeing ads for depression medication and being told more about it and it's basically been advertising the disease and infecting people falsely

I was mainly refering to Machette's statistics that were about developing countries in general....

I live in a developed/developing country as well, but it's not like the states is with all the hypochondriacs due to advertising. We don't have really any advertising for these types of drugs. I can't think of any.
