Digicam
Im finally going to get a camera, but there are so many to choose from. Any recommendations? I want a slim one I can keep in my pocket cause i want to carry it around with me w/o drawinga attention and having a robust object around my neck or bulging in my pocket.
this camera is on sale and with additional coupons, i got it down to a good price of $389.25. It seems to be a sweet camera and a nice deal, but it looks a little big. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=A0389337 i know the size of the camera is something most wouldnt consider, especially for the amount of money it costs and the logical choice of picking a digicam for its quality, but I really want to find one i can slip in and out of my pocket. Aside from the mega pixel rating, whats a good zoom? Im not going to do any professional shots or any photography. I just wanna camera i can take with me and get a shot of me, friends, my ass to post here and some hot chicks and places i go to. I need the camera by August 3rd otherwise i would have just called my friend at Sony and gotten one there but it takes forever to do an employee purchase. The brand isnt really a big thing for me, but its got to be reliable. suggestions? |
if you're just using the camera as a "point and shoot" camera you don't need anything more than 5mp in my opinion.
As for the zoom in your purposes, 3x optical zoom is totally fine. might want to check out Sony's: http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_Cyber_Shot ... ?tag=aisle It doesn't have a ton of settings or anything, but it's very small and reliable. I own this camera and it is great. http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_Cyber_Shot ... ?tag=aisle It has a bunch of manual settings. It's not very thick or anything either. I put it in my pocket and have no problem with it. But since you said you want something very comfortable to put away, you might want to hold it in your hand before you make your decision. |
I have a robust object bulging in my pocket naturally.
That camera looks sweet btw |
for that pirce you might aswell go for a digi slr

Canon has some tiny cameras that has relatively good image quality, better than Sony, IMO.
The PowerShot SD series are slim and light. I recommend the SD300 or the SD20, best bang for the buck. But SD200 is significantly cheaper. |
the sony brand is my baby...i could never turn my back on them. I've been happy with their products on every purchase (My dad, brother, cousin, and I all bought sonys that give great pictures). Just like shoe brands, I think it's up to the person that will ultimately choose what's best for themselves.

the powershot g6 is an awesome fucking camera, but if you want a small compact point and shoot get a nikon coolpix.
in terms of megapixels, as coleman said anything above 5 isnt necessary unless your blowing them up on a constant basis, stick around 3.5-5 |

Ive got a CoolPix 4800 and it works just fine. The quality is not great but good, its pretty cheap and its got quite a few handy options.
|
my friend has a coolpix 5100 and it takes some good photos. i have a few samples if you want, just pm me and ill host them.
|
ive become very familiar with the Canon Powershot A75 camera. It goes for about 300-400 bucks and is very user friendly
|
Sonys are good, but I think they are overpriced. Also, don't they use their own proprietary type of memory that costs more than other memory?
|
I dont know much about camera's, but if you plan to get a cheap brand, avoid Minolta. Its broken down twice on us already, and now we're waiting for it to come back from the repair shop.
Then again, its not all too slim, so I guess you can just ignore that. |

yeah, they memory sticks, aren't they proprietary and more expensive per megabyte than other types of memory ie: cf and sd?

I'm happy with my Kodak DX7440 but I wish it had a little bit more SLR-like adjustments. |
ok i think ive narrowed it down to the Cannon Powershot SD300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830120160
or my friend at sony will get me the DSCP200, which is the camera that she has. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830150057 her discount wont even get the price cheaper than newegg, but she speaks very highly of it and it is a 7MP camera. the Canon though is alot smaller and i think will suit my needs just fine. I went to see the musical 'Wicked' on Friday night and was using her DSCP200 to take some shots. It has alot of functions and seemed to be a nice little thing but again, the Canon is alot smaller and the sony was a load in my pockets when combined with my keys, money and phone. Here are some questions I have for you guys. I never by extended warranties, ever. I usually consider them to be a waste of money because products almost always have a manufacturers warranty on them. I havent bought a camera before, so i wanted to know if you guys think i should get a warranty on my camera. Best Buy has a 4 year replacement warranty for both the Sony and Canon. thats alot of freakin money right there and im not sure about getting one. Also, i dont know if i should get an extra battery. the camera comes with one and a charger, so couldnt i just charge the camera when its not in use? im going to Canada in two weeks for about 6 days, do you think i need an extra battery? Im thinking that 512mb mem card would be good for a 4.0MP camera what size memory should i get for a 7.2 MP camera? i dont anticipate taking more than 100 pics....but i never thought i would have 20Gb of pr0n either. thx for the help guys. |
I don't see why you would ever need to use a 7.xmp camera. Are you going to blow any images up for posters? Point and shoot right? But you can always choose what size of a picture you want to take in the settings menu. With my 5.1mp sony, I can choose between 5mp, 4mp, 3mp, 1mp, VGA mode (e-mail shit webcam quality pics).

If only i had 900 dollars to spend on a camera |
well the thing is that after shipping and taxes, the SD300 will almost be about teh same as the DSCP200, so I might as well get the more powerful camera right? its about a $40 difference. fuck me, im still gonna have to buy a memory card and shit.
aghh |
ok, well i went to dell.com and bought the Canon Powershot SD300. I used a couple of online coupons to knock about $75 of the price. So I ended up spending $346.58 for the camera, 2yr warranty and 2nd day shipping. went to best buy and got a 128mb SD card for another $26.93 for a total of $373.51. Thanks for everyones help, now i gotta tell my friend im not going to get a Sony. shes gonna be pissed cause i had her look at over a dozen models.
current pic of Madmartagen should be in the photo album in 3 days. rock: |
