i found that card on ncix canada http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? ... e=SAPPHIRE
its the same card right? it says that you need a intel processor, does the fact that i have a amd mean that it won't work on my computer. and it says you have to have a 300 watt power supply, how do i find out how many watts mine is? |
look at the power supply, and it should work with the amd, just check the mother board, thats usually the deciding factor
|
the power supply said max output was 230, so that card won't work then? and what do you mean by check the motherboard?
|
230 wont work ud need 300+ so u dont need to worry about the motherboard unless you buy a new power supply

ok, so what about this one: http://secure.ncix.com/products/custome ... imageframe[/quote:9a205] Yes, unless you want to prep the comp for any future updates, that will do. |

what do you mean? i am adding ram and a sound card to, how do i know this ram will work? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php? ... acture=RAM i know it will fit in the slot but i do not know if it is the right type |
Find out what motherboard you have, post the name here, and Ill tell you what you can get for it.
|
and i find that out how? i know the left click properties on My Computer, so do i go to device manager or something?
i really am a idiot |

i really am a idiot[/quote:d9d5f] What kind of computer do you have? Built it yourself? Bought a Dell? Any boxes or papers left on it? How old is it? |

custom built but my dad just bought it from some store, no box, no os disc, no nothing just the computer, its about 2 1/2 to 3 years old |
Not even a specification of the parts in it?
|
i don't know what brands of parts are in, i know the specs and what the current video card is.
|
Yeah, those are easy to find in the system options. Its the Mobo thats trickier. Dont really know if theres any way to find out in the system ops or anything like that, I think you kight have to open the case and look for a name on the board itself.
|
k i looked on the thing and it said elite group on something and just other numbers here and there
edit: i just found something that said Legend Computer |
see if you can get a part # off the motherboard, then google it. youll get all you need to know about the mb. the 420 power supply should be prlenty good for both current and future upgrades
|
i can't find anything as far as part numbers go, i can find numbers and stuff but nothing that mentions the motherboard
|
whats the brand, AOpen? What? it should atleast say that somewhere
|
http://www.ecsusa.com/ is the company that made it by the looks of it and i looked through the motherboards that they have on there site and i can't find mine
|
take your computer to someone who can more the less see what is there and who knows what they are talking about. I cant do anything from here unless i have more information.
-Locked- Pm if you think it needs to be re-opened *Edit: Unlocked, got some more stuff to work with |
Download CPU-Z, it will tell you everything you need to know about your CPU, RAM, and motherboard.
I recommend you grab a 6600GT over the 9800 Pro, it's way faster especially with AA/AF on. That thermaltake PSU is complete shit. Do not get that. Get 400W+ from PCP&C, SeaSonic, Enermax, Fortron or Antec. |

Go with BFG or Galaxy. |
I wouldn't trust Galaxy with a $200 investment.
BFG is the best of the best. eVGA is usually good (but apparently not always, but I know my next purchase will be from them since they added Lifetime Warrenty, plus the Step Up program and they usually have the best prices), Leadtek, XFX, and PNY are good manufacturers too. |

I'm not much of a fan of Galaxy either but Guru gave them high marks. Plus the fan and heatsink seem way better than that on my eVGA 6600, but like you BFG is the best of the best, PNY would be my second choice, then XFX. I wish I had a camera so I could have taken a picture of the application of the heatsink gel. It's like someone got a glob of it on their hand and just smeard it on the HSI chip and GPU, I spent nearly 30 minutes cleaning it all off before I put on my new fan from Zalman. Just to give you an idea of how shitty the old fan was... I couldn't play any thing on medium or high settings, it had to be the lowest becuase the precious thing would overheat causing crashes and horrible artifacts. With the Arctic 5 gel I put on and the new VF-700Cu I was able to OC the card with Auto-Detect from 300mhz/900mhz to 3D Performance on 610mhz/1.1ghz and I can run Rome Total War with 8x/16x on 1152x864 with all high and huge number of units on screen with ZERO problems. So basically the moral of all that was buy eVGA if you want to replace the fan, or just go with somthing already solid like BFG, PNY, XFX, or Galaxy. beer: |

info about the motherboard |
micro atx..does that mean he has one of those small form factor systems?
|
yes, he has one of the micro systems with a cass that is about 8x8x13 or something like that, tiny. i might be getting one soon to take to college
BTW Nice to have you back Himmler beer: |
After snooping around for all the info I could find on that motherboard. I found out that it uses SiS 730S chipset, which has integraded graphics and but it does have an APG 4x slot.
So any current AGP card will work in it. As for RAM, it used SDRAM PC100 or PC133, so yes, that RAM you linked will work. |
gj akuma, saved me the trouble of looking for it dance:

will this card work? http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... atid=10524
it says agp 8x support but will it support my agp 4x? i know its not that great but it will support call of duty and MOH right? |
please answer ^
|
WHAT A RIP OFF!! If that's the best you can do then yes it will work in 4xAGP and it will run MOHAA and CoD.
But for $15 CAD LESS you can get this: http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do ... id=999.821 A 9600XT is appox 5x as fast as that 9200. Or for $30 less you can get this http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do ... id=999.821 9600 Pro that is a little bit slower than a 9600XT, but still far far more powerful than a 9200. On the other side... You could spend $20 and get a 9800 Pro which will about 2x faster than the 9600XT: http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do ... id=999.821 |
