anti virus alternative?

im using norton right now and it takes up a ridiculous amount of memory, so it there something out there that is better, if not equivulent to it that's not a resource hog?

Mr.Buttocks 08-13-2005 03:25 AM

NOD32 or Kaspersky.

Bucknub 08-13-2005 03:42 AM

Thanks, will look into it.

elstatec 08-13-2005 05:26 AM

I use nod32 very good av.

Tystnad 08-13-2005 08:48 AM

PC-cillin is what I use. Got it with the mobo for free, works really well and uses hardly any memory. biggrin:

I've got AVG Free for viruses and the new Microsoft AntiSPyware beta for spyware. Neither seems to hog that much.

[quote="Mr.Buttocks":e32f5]NOD32 or Kaspersky.[/quote:e32f5]

Kaspersky all the way. It detects everything... even things Norton and McAffee can't.

c312 08-13-2005 02:34 PM

is Kaspersky better than PC cillin because I read that PC cillin was the top rated AV software

Judas 08-13-2005 03:12 PM

kaspersky is too fuking complicated to use imo ... i use symantec av corp... i havent really noticed it using a shit load of resources ... about 23 mg of mem i think.

PC-cillin is by far the best AV-prog Ive tried to date. Really simple to use and blocks everything. Something I found really handy is the "Emergency lockdown". As soon as PC-cillin detects a virus, it gives you the option of an emergency lockdown, which locks all outgoing and ingoing traffic.

Yes I have the full version. i was mistaken - it actually uses 10mb of my memory.

TonyMontana 08-13-2005 06:16 PM

Norton Corporate only uses 2mb for me

elstatec 08-13-2005 07:13 PM

thats because your a slick greaseball.

Bleuachdu 08-13-2005 07:48 PM

I'm using CA EZ-Trust. Using about 6mb Ram right meow.

Doctor Duffy 08-13-2005 09:14 PM

AVG's great. It's free, and we havent gotten attacked since we installed it. The only bad things about it is that it has a new 20 second update every three to four days. But they're quick, as I said, 20 seconds.

elstatec 08-13-2005 09:44 PM

Fuck you its 21 seconds.

c312 08-13-2005 10:15 PM

I'm thinking about buying the full version of Kaspersky. I downloaded the trial and it seems to be pretty easy to use. I also read that it is the best at detecting anything on your computer that shouldn't be there so I want to get that for viruses and then the top-rated antispyware program (Microsoft AntiSpyware) is free so I have that already. Then I'll have the top rated spyware and virus protection.

Stammer 08-13-2005 10:41 PM

I'm using Norton, no problems.
