Buy a 6600

Cool Fool 08-16-2005 12:14 AM

yeah radeon pro 9800 - 1.5 shaders
gt 6600 - 3.0

c312 08-16-2005 12:28 AM

Sorry to get offtopic, but I have a question I've been meaning to ask.

I have a 6800 (not GT) in my new computer. How do they compare to other cards? It seems to run fine for me, and it's definately an upgrade from my old FX5200

I see no 3.0, so I am assuming you mean 2.0.

well jin roh on the box it says 3.0? maybe im mistaken...but well get a newer card, not an ati radeon pro 9800...like a x700 or something

Poseidon 08-16-2005 05:09 AM

A 6600GT would be better, but as you asked - it WILL run COD pretty well. How much RAM would you put in it? I'd recommend a gig. This setup would also run bf2 (should you get it) on low/medium settings (as long as you have the gig ram)

That mobo sucks, if you want to go s754 (not sure why you would since s939 is the same price...) Get the [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136147:b949a]DFI Lanparty UT nF3[/url:b949a] It's the best s754 by far.

Video card, definitely get a 6600GT. It rapes everything in that price range.

Simo Häyhä 08-16-2005 10:59 AM

If he plans on using that computer for a couple years why not go with a socket 939? 64 bit is only going to get more popular why not be thinking ahead?
and a 6600 GT is a wonderfull card, i have one myself and seems to stomp on any ATI card in its price range.

7800GTX is almost twice as fast a X850XT in some tests... Then there is still SLI...

7800GT is like 5 frames slower than a 7800GTX and is cheaper than most X850XTs.

Milla 08-16-2005 04:56 PM

ATi still has to make something to compete with that card, isnt it newer than the X850?

Akuma 08-16-2005 05:28 PM

Ya, R520 is ATI's new card... But new rumors state that it won't even be in production (much less on the shelf) until October.

ATI has been delaying that card for a long time. I think it will never come out
so for the time being Nvidia > ATI

thank you

Well they never actually gave a release date. But they've had a ton of production problems. Switching to 90nm fab was not kind to them at all annoy:

I already bought my 7800GT, so I don't care.

Simo Häyhä 08-17-2005 09:35 AM

Now intel and AMD are thinking about a 65nm production. ohhh goody
