The "next gen" consoles

Anyone considering buying any of these, if so what one and why? Been seeing some interviews with developers lately and a lot of them seem to be freaking out on the prospect of making games for them. According to gabe newell of valve the xbox 360 will probably be near the end of its life before programmers can finally figure out how to use the 3 cpu's in it effectively so theyre kinda advertising this big powerful system that will be in the process of being replaced before its actually being used anywhere near its full potential. Seems somewhat oOo: paying for something that won't be used properly,

ps3 same deal with the cell cpu, 99% smoke and mirrors marketing bullshit.

console games will become too expensive for me to afford. i'm getting a PS2 for 60 from a good friend. I just want to play killzone and bf:modern combat with my boys on splitscreen online co-op

geRV 09-08-2005 09:14 PM

Yeah the new xbox 360 games are gonna be around £10 more expensive or so because of support for hi def in each game. annoy:

Merlin122 09-08-2005 09:16 PM

they need to lower the price of games to the cost of a DVD (usually 20-30 for a new one)

geRV 09-08-2005 09:18 PM

Xbox is using hd-dvd so that increases the cost as well. I just prefer pc's over consoles these days, ive a stack of xbox games and rarely ever touch it, usually it gets used as a dvd player and thats about it.

Milla 09-08-2005 09:21 PM

Ill be getting the Xbox360. I love playing sports games and quite frankly sports games on the PC are fucking horrible. Only games i play on the computer are FPS...everything else is console.

Scalping Chief 09-08-2005 09:23 PM

Can't wait for FIFA 06 for ps2.

geRV 09-08-2005 09:23 PM

Only "sports" games i play are wwe games, and they don't come out for pc. loney:

The xenos chip is something we'll see in pc's soon enough, without the 10mb of onboard ram though. dance:

Milla 09-08-2005 09:26 PM

What the pc needs is a game like gran turismo 4, im no fan of racing games but ps2 owners got shafted royally and asked for more when they bought what amounted to half a game with online play missing. PGR 2 online was fun as hell, can only imagine what gt4 would hae been like. Id love to see the pc get some kind of game to rival it, all the capability and capacity is there, just noones stepped upto the plate.

TodzumPapst 09-08-2005 09:31 PM

Sgt. Paine 09-08-2005 09:36 PM

nub question. For most games (socom, and such) that i play, that are FPS on a console, are so hard to control since i am so used to a mouse, and not the analog sticks. is there a way to use a keyboard and mouse for ps2, do they even make one?

there are 2 usb slots in the front of the PS2, you can plug a keyboard into it, i know that, i've done that before.

and i guess you could put a USB mouse there too, but i have never tried that.

Short Hand 09-08-2005 11:42 PM

Only the official sony mouse ever worked for me in those usb ports.... my old optical blue and my mx500 do not work in the usb..

Bullitt 09-09-2005 02:38 AM

I would love at PS3 for Soul Calibur 3

Milla 09-09-2005 10:17 AM

Im tired of the playstation platforms, its time for a change, which is why im going for the 360.

geRV 09-09-2005 10:45 AM

I think nintendo's going to suprise everyone this time around. For a change sony has (by a small margin) the most powerful console, at the same time no company has put out 3 big selling home consoles in a row, pretty much been nes, snes then playstation, playstation 2.

The revolution backwards compatability will win it a big following imo, ms and sony have already shot their loads in regards to uveiling the consoles and showing what they can do, nintendo stil has to unveil the revolution controller and theres been a ton of buzz about it on the net since e3 with speculation of what its going to be like. I can honestly see nintendo kicking some ass this time around.

Milla 09-09-2005 10:54 AM

Only problem with nintendo is (atleast with the gamecube) all the games are child like, not to mention after a few months of a new game coming out the games are being halted of production. I think Nintendo might not do to good at first because everyone who bought a gamecube and was dissapointed probably will switch to something else like MS or sony if they havent already. Time will tell, the new Xobox system looks pretty balanced.

Meh, nintendo games just usually have a fun factor involed in them rather than having to rely on gimmicks like tons of swearing and blood or whatever (hello gta). Games like mariokart, sure it looks like a kids game, but thats just the graphical style of the mario games, in multiplayer mariokart can't be touched for pure fun.

The next GTA release you will play as a white kid from Brampton.

Akuma 09-09-2005 12:43 PM

How is the PS3 the most powerful? In terms of graphics it doesn't even come close to the XBox 360.

The cell cpu's meant to give it an advantage over the other consoles. Though its graphics chips basically a slightly faster geforce 7800gtx, was reported it was slower but that was an error on the site that had it.

Akuma 09-09-2005 01:17 PM

Cell is overrated bullshit.

Have you seen the specs for the 360's graphics processor? It's quite amazing... 48 pixel pipelines, 10mb imbedded RAM, unified shaders...

Some how I think that would absolutely destroy an overlocked 7800GTX...

Yeah the xenos is a completly new design, unified pipelines etc. Was reading an interview with richard huddy from ati and the unified pipeline design will be making its way to pc soon, the onboard ram though wouldn't make sense for a pc according to him. Xenos seems to be the way forward unifying the pipelines, of course david kirk from nvidia says other wise oOo:

Then again this is the same guy who was practically blowing loads for the fx range so ill take whatever he says with a truck fulla salt.

Stammer 09-09-2005 01:42 PM

I'm not buying one.

Proteus 09-09-2005 01:43 PM

I'm getting Xbox 360 because I'm biased towards Microsoft.
