JetBlue Plane in trouble on MSNBC

They are filming a JetBlue plane that's landing gear is turned 90 degrees, full of fuel and people. ed:

TonyMontana 09-21-2005 06:59 PM

CNN is covering it now. Crazy...couldnt even imagine what the people are thinking...I guess they moved every one to the back because the nose will be hitting the ground. They are probably circling to lose as much fuel as they can before they hit

dr nein 09-21-2005 07:01 PM

i wonder how many lawsuits will come out of this one

tomxtr 09-21-2005 07:01 PM

LAFD says it will land in the next 10 minutes or so.

Judas 09-21-2005 07:03 PM

i dont get it ... if they are turned 90 they are still in the same position as normal just facing the opposite direction ... so the wheels will still turn ...wtf. its not like theyve rotated 45 deg.

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 09-21-2005 07:06 PM

What airport? & any links?

Nyck 09-21-2005 07:07 PM

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 09-21-2005 07:09 PM

Sounds pretty bad, best of luck to em. ed:

That would be 180 degrees. 90 degrees is a quarter turn.

Madmartagen 09-21-2005 07:14 PM

it was on my news for an hour until they got bored and went back to king of the hill oOo:

TonyMontana 09-21-2005 07:43 PM

man this is gonna be scary

Stammer 09-21-2005 07:46 PM

It landed. Big deal.

TonyMontana 09-21-2005 07:46 PM

IT MADE IT!!!!! Good stuff to the pilots for making the nose come down at the last moment to minimize damage

edit: yeah...try telling "big deal" to the passengers on board. rolleyes:

Sure, give me some names and mailing addresses and I'll personally tell them how little I care.

dr nein 09-21-2005 08:00 PM

it really isn't a big deal. the media decides if it's a big deal or not, and it only is if it ends in a crash with a lot of deaths. that way they can have constant coverage and start some conspiracy interview with someone on the ground crew who forgot to wipe the windows.

tomxtr 09-21-2005 08:15 PM

It's a big deal to me. I fly a round-trip about every two weeks and have to fly off Long Island on Friday. Now, not only to I have to look out for shifty looking Arabs, but faulty landing gear. happy:

Sergeant_Scrotum 09-21-2005 08:23 PM

When I was working at an airport we had a jet's front gear collapse. Thankfully it was when taxing to its hanger and not when it had landed just 30 seconds before.

Rolf, did you see the second chick out of the airplane, just storm out, weave past everyone, and just board the bus. Sheesh, what a joke. Didnt even give a thank you or anything. The least she could of done to the pilot who literally saved her ass and life is given him a complimentary blow-job.

And the pilot of the year awards goes to....

What an awesome landing.

Judas 09-21-2005 10:18 PM

i hate you all.

You're a lot more likely to die in a car crash on the way to the airport than you are to die in a plane crash.

Yeah, just like kids are 100 times more likely to die of drowning then from a handgun. I read Freakanomics. Its a little more disconcerting when you have no control over your fate. calmdown:

They landed safe n' sound.

lol how they circled LA for a couple of hours, why didnt they just fly towards theri destination so the passengers could just board another flight to wherever they were going? theyre gonna land somewhere, why waste fuel over your departure airport?? stupid:

Maybe if the landing gear is stuck, they can't get the same fuel economy and wouldn't make it? Don't know. I was on a 4 engine 747 going from Anchorage, AK to Japan and about half-way through the flight, one of the engines malfunctioned and was shut down. For some reason, they decided to turn around and go back to AK with 3 engines rather than continuing on. It was pretty funny to watch the people who were dozing not realize that we were landing in Alaska after a 7 hour flight. happy:

KTOG 09-22-2005 01:21 PM

Contigency plan. Every pilot has to have one.

Himmler 09-22-2005 01:24 PM

i dont really understand, how the hell does landing gear just turn 90° sideways? i mean it is metal and it is all welded and manufactured almost perfectly. i saw on the history channel or some channel how landing gear is manufactured. it is made so there are no problems. so how the hell did this happen? anyone have any ideas?

The plane was loosing fuel faster than usual because of the drag of the landing gear being out. It was the safest bet just to circle the area

It probably rotates so that it can fold in properly and still fit. I think it just got stuck in that rotated position.
