For those of you keeping score at home. Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that they have now reached 5 million paying subscribers to World of Warcraft across the globe. In late July it was 3.5 million and then 4 million in late August. So 5 million is like, a lot more.

IRVINE, Calif. – December 19, 2005 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has surpassed five million customers worldwide. The subscription-based MMORPG launched approximately one year ago in North America, Australia, and New Zealand and has since released in multiple countries throughout Europe and Asia.

So then... 5 million people paying roughly $12 - $15 per month would be $60 - $75 million each month. Perhaps if they work really hard they get to gross over a billion dollars next year.

How many people here play it? is it really that good or are you just brainwashed or sumthin..... oOo:

HeadUp 12-19-2005 05:01 PM

my lil bro plays that shit like theres no real world

it looks kind of cool but not 5 million paying subscribers cool...he told me they have like 50 3000-person servers...looks like they might need a few more now

i just finished playing the beta for D&D Online and imagine that game will cut into their pretty little numbers....

WoW isn't as fun as Lineage 2 is. Of course I play on private servers, I don't pay to play any game on a monthly basis.

If you want to play WoW or L2 for free legally, just PM me.

I started playing again after 4 months of not playing... And it's even more addictive now that it was before...

Judas 12-19-2005 05:11 PM

5 million @ 20.00 bucks a month.

Bean 2 12-19-2005 05:15 PM

i canceled my subscription last month. It really is addicting, im not even sure it was that fun, I just wanted to get to the highest level and get the best gear. Im glad i stopped playing though, I have a lot more free time now...to play other games.

geRV 12-19-2005 05:17 PM

Would be interesting to see just how many subscibers are actually asian, probably makes up well over half the player base.

Or we could just wait till the servers crash for a couple of days and see how many asian suicides there are.

Supposodly a lot of it goes to "upkeep of the servers" with the rest going to high class hookers, cocaine etc for the dev team.

haha yeah i bet you those servers cant cost more than a mil a year total...either way, there are at least 50 million dollars sitting around every month (depending on the actual cost of subscription)

i bet the devs are livin t up like jay-z now...itd be funny for em to make a music video

Games you have to subscribe to are bull shit. You already pay 39-50 dollars for that fucking thing (not counting warez) just amnother way to stick it to you

Madmartagen 12-19-2005 08:44 PM

i think they are worth it. there is alot of content in these games. you take a genre that people really love (star wars, warcraft) and you make a game that doesnt really have an ending and has an almost limitless amount of content. its like playing your favourite game knowing that it expands all the time.

Stammer 12-19-2005 08:44 PM

I play it with a bunch of people from school, being able to play with actual people you know makes the game a lot more fun.

School helps balance out my play time though, I barley play during the week but when I have free time I'll play it. I've never had a problem with not being able to leave, if I don't feel like playing I hit Esc and quit the game.

KTOG 12-19-2005 08:45 PM

I've succumbed to playing again. Just ran molten core tonight and got my Nightslayer Pants and gloves cool:

WOW !

Coleman 12-20-2005 01:20 AM

one of my roommates (the one that got jacked off by the "dude") played this game religiously. With our new room setup, he is able to put his monitor ontop of his chest of drawers and lay in his bed as he plays WoW. His mom got him a little lap-desk thing, so he uses his wireless mouse on that and has the wireless keyboard.

There are moments where he dangerously plays way too much of that game...socially and physically. oOo:

Theres a guy on xfire from my old clan, I dont think i've ever seen him not playing it oOo:
