RHCP's Dani California
[quote:ddc1d]According to a recent Drowned In Sound report, a US radio presenter has accused the Red Hot Chili Peppers of plagiarism, claiming that the band's "Dani California" single is near identical to Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance".
Dan Gaffney, of Delaware-based WGMD, told his listeners of the similarities. Subsequently, the show's producer Jared Morris told reporters: "The chord progression, the melody, the tempo, the key, the lyrical theme... they're identical." [/quote:ddc1d] http://ultimate-guitar.com/news/general ... arism.html here's a link to the comparison track http://www.jared-morris.com/blog/petty.mp3 |
ha they are pretty similar.
|
that's what I thought when I listened to it
that it was a tom Petty song and the tom petty song is SO MUCH better. |

exactly similar?
|
yeah i thought of that the first time i heard it, i like how this dj douch will be like the guy who cracked the code...
actually it sounds mostly like all the rest of their songs... |

Tom Petty sounds like a hick.
|
I noticed that also. I think their new CD has some good songs, but it's very repetitive.

Tom Petty owns...
That comparison MP3 isn't quite fair; the tempo on the Petty track is sped up. Pretty obvious if anyone knows the track. However, the progression and meter seem reaaaaly similar and I don't like RHCP, so I hope they either get busted or die in a scuba diving / whaling accident. |
close but no cigar.
imo, who the fuk cares. cant an artist be influence by another anymore ffs. |

Judas, to what you're saying, things with the same chord progression doesn't mean one copied the other. The 12 bar blues is a common chord progression that is used in COUNTLESS songs. Hell, Ray Charles built his whole career off the 12 bar blues. When you are "heavily influenced" by multiple aspects, it calls for some legal action imo. |
the newest RHCP songs are all about California. Fuck California.

ummmm, most of their songs are somehow related to cali...
LA LAKERS for instance... |

Pretty much every song on that album used the word once, and usually in a derogatory context ("... Better warn ya, bout the motha fuckas come from california") |
lol wtf are you people serious, when i heard this song not one time did i think of Mary Janes Last dance, and i do love that song.
In fact i even like this RHCP's song. |

I really wish they would fucking quit making shitty, mediocre music.
Their drummer looks like Will Ferrell...ever notice that? oOo: |
I cant stand how everyone is all of a sudden liking RHCP cuz of their new cd. its not a bad cd but its not amazing.
I thought Dani California sounded a lot like Blur- Country House. its not exact, but similar. |

Also, did you know Flea, the bassist, was in 'The Big Lebowski'? [url:bf551]http://imdb.com/name/nm0281359/[/url:bf551] |

You don't like the RHCP funk-era? That's when they released their ONLY good albums....FFS, people like you are just so generic, mtv/radio has cloned you and made a million of you. |
nag: Sorry I had the audacity to have differing musical tastes. I just happen to like their newer stuff. Sorry I can't be as musically enlightened as you.
Anyway, back ontopic, the only thing I noticed about Dani California is that the opening chords reminded me alot of 'Sweet Home Alabama' And I know Flea has done tons more movies, its just he had a small but cool part in 'Lebowski' that not everyone would notice. |

Ouch. DID YOU KNOW?: All New Zealanders are allergic to fucking dwarf-ass peachfuzz brandishing faggots that take pics of themselves rolling around with their little gay buddies, cuddling and playing with shit-eating grins so wide with joviality and merriment that you couldn't divide their embrace, even with a mug full of semen for which they would so fervently guzzle down had it not been for the fact that they love the feeling of one another's genitals so keenly and wouldn't break their cuddle for anything in the entire world. *Sniff* I seem to be having an allergic reaction now.... |
