Terror Plot Foiled, Airports on superlockdown
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/10/us.security/index.html
so if you are flying anywhere today, better leave super early [quote:886c2]EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY By Order of the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration: PASSENGERS MAY NOT HAVE LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY SIZE AT THE SCREENING CHECKPOINT OR IN THE CABIN OF THE AIRCRAFT This includes beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency. Such items may be transported in checked baggage. Passengers may have: * Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling. * Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket. * Insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines. Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding the aircraft. Statement By Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff Announcing A Change To The Nation's Threat Level For The Aviation Sector Press Office U.S. Department of Homeland Security August 10, 2006 The Department of Homeland Security is taking immediate steps to increase security measures in the aviation sector in coordination with heightened security precautions in the United Kingdom. Over the last few hours, British authorities have arrested a significant number of extremists engaged in a substantial plot to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to the United States. Currently, there is no indication, however, of plotting within the United States. We believe that these arrests have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted. For that reason, the United States Government has raised the national threat level to Severe, or Red, for commercial flights originating in the United Kingdom bound for the United States. This adjustment reflects the Critical, or highest, alert level that has been implemented in the United Kingdom. To defend further against any remaining threat from this plot, we will also raise the threat level to High, or Orange, for all commercial aviation operating in or destined for the United States. Consistent with these higher threat levels, the Transportation Security Administration is coordinating with federal partners, airport authorities and commercial airlines on expanding the intensity of existing security requirements. Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane. This determination will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant. These changes will take effect at 4:00 AM local time across the country. Travelers should also anticipate additional security measures within the airport and at screening checkpoints. These measures will continue to assure that our aviation system remains safe and secure. Travelers should go about their plans confidently, while maintaining vigilance in their surroundings and exercising patience with screening and security officials. The United States and the United Kingdom are fully united and resolute in this effort and in our ongoing efforts to secure our respective homelands. [/quote:886c2] |

At least we have frights still going unlike Brittain.
teh oh noes |
I like the color coded threat level, really helps the situation. Do they think people are that retarded where you can't just say, "Uuum, there is a high chance of terrorist plotting." Rather than, "OMFG Orange!!"

Fuckin' really scary shit when you think about it. These fuckers are going to any lengths to bring down an airliner. Only a matter of time before they slip through the cracks and pull off an attack.
My guess is they're gonna attack the subway system in NY or Chi-town. |

THE REAL TERROR THREAT ON AN AIRPLANE, AVOIDED BY BRITISH INTELLIGENCE.
|
I flew from Miami to Atlanta last night. All day I was hearing that security lines were going to be huge, etc. So, I cancel an appointment to get to the airport 3 hours early. I walk right up to the ticket counter. Nobody in front of me in line. I go to the security line. There are four people ahead of me.
Then i had to wait forever for the plane to take off. Storms in Atlanta pushed everything back. I was supposed to get home at 8, but didn't land until around 11. The only problem that I had was with Baggage Claim. I checked my bag, for the first time in years, so that I didn't have to worry about throwing stuff away. When I got to the Claim area there were probably three or four times as many people as usual. So many bags were coming out that the carousel couldn't handle it. Bags were falling off onto the floor. Then some baggage handler guys came out and started stacking the bags between the various carousels ... which made it even harder to get through the crowd. |
Found this quite amusing:
[quote:f54fc] "Because the plot involved taking liquid explosives aboard planes in carry-ons, passengers at all U.S. and British airports, and those boarding U.S.-bound flights at other international airports, are banned from taking any liquids onto planes." Sir, I'm going to have to take this bottle of water away from you since it might be a liquid explosive, and I'm going to have to mix it with all of these other bottles of possibly liquid explosive, and I'm going to have to dump them all in this trash can... together. Nevermind that the plot specifically mentions mixing chemicals and/or nitroglycerin... which explodes if handled too roughly. I can't fucking believe I'm flying somewhere tomorrow. I might as well just spread my cheeks now.[/quote:f54fc] http://www.xopl.com/ |
