German Luger ?

Anyone know about them? I know of one that's a 1943 P38 with a German eagle/swastika insignia on it. I didn't see it in person yet and don't have a pic of it but i heard through a friend that the owner wants to get rid of it.

Wonder what something like that goes for. It's supposedly a WWII survivor.

I've got a 1916 WWI German Imperial Luger. Interesting thing about it was it was rearsenaled into the Finnish army in the 30s then sent back to the German army in the later part of the war. So it has the finnish "SA" stamp and the WaffenAmpt on it.. Interesting to see both marks on a gun like that. Too bad it has import marks on it or it would be worth even more. Check for some kind of other marks on them, pretty sure I can identify the symbols on it and tell you which factory it came from. Also, since the WaffenAmpt is still intact it most likely was a russian capture pistol, the Americans tended to ping out the WaffenAmpt when they captured german guns.

Hey Simo, as far as i know, there are no import marks on it anywhere. At least thats what i'm told. I should see it tomorrow in person. btw, it's a numbers matching gun?

Colonel 04-06-2007 10:16 PM

I've got a Luger that my Dad had for a long time. It is in its original box. I think it has 1930 or something like that stamped on it ... but the problem with it is that it is a gun that they brought back in after the war and refurbished it with parts from other guns, so the serial numbers don't match. I took it to a dealer one time and he told me that it was worth $300 or $400 bucks or something like that ... but he said the box was worth even more because nobody saved the boxes and that they were kinda rare.

Arkan 04-07-2007 08:34 AM

I bet you could fetch more than the $400 quote the dealer gave you. +1 on the box though.

This is a Luger, a P-08.

This is a Walther P-38.

Xorcist [USA] 04-07-2007 11:37 AM

My girlfriend's father was in the Bulge and while in France they came across a German arms factory.

He snagged a P-38 with holster and sent it back to the states. It has never been fired and is still in the original packing grease.

I handled it once but do not remember when it was made.

It's a shame she has four brothers who will pass it on so I will never have it in my possesion when we get married.

Arkan 04-07-2007 03:13 PM

Ok, i have the gun now. It's a P-38 with no markings other than a few very small german eagle markings. The serial #'s match throughout the gun and i think, even on one of the mags. I need to find a magnifying glass to see better. Right now i'm eating a sandwich and i don't want to touch the gun.

The gun looks just like this except better condition. (same photo John J posted)

Ok, i'm no WWII gun aficionado but, did the Krauts use these P38's also or were they "German Police" only weapons. It's definately not a luger like the one John J posted. There is no name brand on the gun like "Walther"....just the P.38 insignia on the tip of the slide.

I'll edit this thread when i take a few pics. I just hate my dig camera, it's a piece of shit.
btw, only paid $200 for it.

geRV 04-07-2007 03:17 PM

Germans did use the p38, far as im aware the luger was discontinued before ww2 and was replaced with the p38. Lots of germans kept their lugers instead of changing sidearms though.

edit: yup was being replaced around 1938

[quote:03d5a]The Pistole 08 was the standard side arm for the German Army during both world wars, but was being replaced by the Walther P38 by 1938. By that time the Luger pistol was simply too expensive for military use due to its high standard of manufacturing. Another reason for the demise of the Luger pistol's military use may have been its sensitivity to dirt and dust resulting in malfunctions. The rarity of this weapon made it a sought souvenir and trophy by Allied forces for its accuracy and superiority to the P38.[/quote:03d5a]

I hate this POS camera but there it is. The finish is really nice and it came with a side holster and 2 mags.

Arkan 04-07-2007 11:17 PM

Hey, look at what i got to go along with that P-38. Another WWII survivor from the same seller.

I guess i have to get a few WWII rifles next eh?

Whatada 04-07-2007 11:58 PM

me want.

Simo Häyhä 04-08-2007 02:43 AM

No its not a numbers matching gun.

Ps- are you selling any of those pistols?
No its not a numbers matching gun.

The P-38 may go to a friend of mine. I'd rather shoot a gun as opposed to just letting it sit there. He knows how much i paid for it and is willing to give me more. As for that .45, i'm gonna shoot it so it's a keeper.

The guy selling off his stuff has another 1911 series 70 target .45 and another one but in 9mm (both Colts). And he also has a few revolvers. A few Smiths, Colts, and 1 Ruger. I'm thinking of making him an offer and taking everything he's got, then parting it out. Let me know if you're interested in anything in particular. As long as you live in the states, we can do a transaction through an FFL dealer.

Eames 04-08-2007 08:28 PM

sweet weaopons man. i have an all matching parts 1916 WWI luger thats in great condition, i take it to the range and shoot it every now and then and its awesome using a weapon that you know saw combat over 90 years ago.
