you must have a lot of pc parts laying around. what do you do with all your old shit?
|
Nice Gerv, tho I'm a bit out on the computer lingo & graphics cards so I've no idea what that is but it looks mean!
My PC at home is 2ghz GF3 win xp 500mb ram & I thought I was uber leet. Now it's so out of date I can't even play bf1942 without lag. One of these days I'm gana buy a new PC & start gaming again- maybe... I wonder if a badazz laptop could handle new games? |
How did you buy that gerv? All the reviews i've read haven't been very good. I love ATi also, but I think they hav etaken a shit with this one. Maybe better drivers will increase the performance, but as it stands now, for high res, I think 8800 wins hands down. And it's cheaper.
And what happens when the 2900xtx comes out? You gonna upgrade to that? |

I was able to get the board working by disconnecting my dvd rom and 1 other hard drive so currently doing some testing. So far like guru 3d said im seeing a bug with performance in call of duty 2, x1900xt and 2900xt getting virtually the same performance. |
well then i shall eagerly await the numbers when better drivers come out.
|
Very nice GeRV, keep us updated.

Ok some benchmarks, theres a few that obviously shows that there has to be some kinda aa bug going on, all tests ran at 1920x1200 4xfsaa 16xhqaf: fx60 @ 2.8ghz

How hefty a PSU are you going to need for that Geraldine?
How hefty a PSU are you going to need for that Geraldine?[/quote:426dd]
oOo: Dunno yet, was runnig 3d mark 05 and the system shut down, im on a 350 watt at the minute, id asume the shuttle 400watt psu could handle it. |
didn't they recommend a 450w for the 1900xt series? i think it's pretty good you got it to run on a 350w.

Unfortunately its too bulky to fit in my shuttle, prolly end up selling it of eventually. |

Yeah the shuittle psu's are very efficient, a 400 watt shuttle psu is more like a 600 watt desktop psu according to some people. Now ive to order up one of those tomorrow and hope it supplies enough power. |
800 watt psu is where its at these days. If you want your room to turn into a sauna happy:
|
I just got my computer built yesterday, i have an 8800GTS superclocked.. haven't had the chance to test it out because my optical drive is fucked, keeps screwing up reading cd's or having errors during installation. annoy:

Thats really why i got the shuttle, had a 3.2p4 @ 4ghz on watercooling, room was boiling, had crossfireed x1900's with a watercooled opteron 165, room was boiling. Now ive got the shuttle ive an inadequate powersupply to do the job, annoy: Just hope this 400 watt is upto it as its supposed to be designed for multi gpu configs. |

What spec did you end up settling on anway? |
Yeah, i have a 430w psu and my room gets smoking hot. on my next build i'm probably looking at a 750w. ed: want to put in some leeway, as my 430 isn't really enough for me to upgrade to a x1950pro agp at the moment. I think they recommend a 450w for that as well.
|
Friend of mine bought this pc
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... 81&subcat= The case might look a bit "cheap" but it has some amazing cooling in it, bigass 200mm fan at the top of the case near the back, few large intakes and a large exhaust. You can put your hand on the grill of the fan and its really cold feling. Seems to do the job pretty well. |
Thats the case I have planned to build my new rig in. That is unless something betters comes out between now and then.

Gerv i'll buy your vid card. Im in the market for one, i was looking at the 8600GTS (the DX10 card) because its like 179 (which is cheap) on newegg.com
|
That's something i hadn't considered. With th psu on the bottom, you're right, there's no place to hide the wires coming out of the psu. when it's on the top of the case, you can't see them. I suppose you could get them to run in one nice tight strand, and hide excess behind drive bays if there's room. Of if there's room between the motherboard tray and the back panel, could drill a hole and run them under the motherboard.
