mr.miyagi 04-04-2008 08:22 PM

Difference in directions has the help/hindrance of the jet streams.

Pyro 04-05-2008 04:51 PM

why waste your time in England?

elstatec 04-05-2008 08:50 PM

yea visit Brampton and decapitate pyro instead

Fluffy Bunny 04-09-2008 02:10 AM

Come party in London with meeeee!

Mr Pyro sir, we have history & culture & generally don't try to replicate the social lifestyle of gold-toothed ******. Which I hear a rather obscure area in Canada known as 'Brampton' is quite infamous for.

King regards &tc,

Mr Fluff

Poseidon 04-09-2008 05:43 AM

Come 20miles north to Preston and see me!

Have fun!

[DAS REICH] Blitz 04-09-2008 07:37 AM

Come 3,000 miles West to AA.com North Building, Offtopic Floor, Apartment 1337 and see me!

London is not worth the price of admission...it's is so god damn expensive there....and id much rather deal with the wannabe gangstas of brampton, than the chavs.

I only know one dude with a gold tooth and hes like 45.

.

Its only expensive because of the dollar\pound exchange rate. Somehow i doubt londoners are to blame for that.

Go see a sweet Football match. Get drunk before hand.

you'll need to be drunk to enjoy a bunch of passing around for 90 minute to yield a 0-0 tie.

You obviously have never been to a football match, know the concept or anything about the sport.

elstatec 04-11-2008 05:39 AM

its the biggest sport in the world so that many people cant be wrong.

Airborne Butters 04-11-2008 06:10 AM

I'll admit I used to never like soccer/football that much. Thought it was boring and whatnot. That was until I started watching games every week , for the past six months and understand it.

Really great sport to watch. Being drunk helps though. Like with everything else.

Come back to us when canada has a sport that has a worldwide appeal like football. For such a "boring" game it has no competition whatsoever when it comes to how many people are playing it globally.

mr.miyagi 04-11-2008 09:30 AM

he's just trolling. Football is one of my true passions, watching my team newcastle play tomorrow at the pub with wor lass, hopefully we'll beat portsmouth :)

I am obsessed with football. Espnsoccernet is my homepage. When I was younger (early teens) I played on a few traveling teams and was just absolutely dirty; my entire team was. I moved and switched schools and stopped playing; all of my friends went on to play in high school and were ranked 2nd in the US I think? something absurd like that...atleast top 20. Ironically the school I moved to beat them 2-1 and knocked them out of their ranking; it was hilarious. Anyways, coming to school alot of the friends I made played in high school and were on some incredible HS teams. My one friend from Belchertown (Mass) would play all the portuguese players right off the boat from Ludlow and beat them - his high school had a soccer dynasty. I play on a casual intramural team and my friends just run tricks on people, its awesome.

My teams: Arsenal (cant believe they fucking lost this week!!!!), and Fiorentina :)

elstatec 04-11-2008 01:19 PM

two amazing games this past week.

the arsenal liverpool match on tuesday then the getafe bayern munich match yesterday. such crazy games.

Airborne Butters 04-11-2008 04:48 PM

Newcastle put a sound ass whooping on Reading last week. Arsenal is pretty good, but they've been playing like shit. That 4-2 loss to Liverpool hit em hard. One of the best games I watched was my favorite team, Chelsea, versus Arsenal. Me and my roomate went ape shit when they beat Arsenal 2-1 a few weeks back. Drogba is the shit. So is Joe Cole.

Man U and Arsenal this Sunday should be sweet. Don't anybody say anything about it because I'm watching it on Tuesday!

Pyro 04-11-2008 05:29 PM

worldwide appeal because it's what everyone there is told and raised to like

same reason why canadians seem to like hockey the best

soccer is cheap...so they all play it...plus all you need is one ball to play it..imagine trying to plau hockey or baseball with one item...a ball.

As usual theres more holes in your argument than a fishing net. You're essentially saying national games are pushed on people when theyre younger (hockey for canadians and football for brits being the examples). Then if thats the case why is football the #1 globally played game by far? Football is not the national game of every country in the world or even close to it..yet its by far the most played?

And who the fuck cares if all you ned to play "soccer" is a ball? That makes it far more accessable and have more of an appeal. Not every parent can go and buy all the hockey gear just because their child develops a passing interest in something that he may not bother with 6 months down the line.

You just have to go to a celtic or liverpool game to hear the crowd burst into "you'll never walk alone" and you'll know it something that no other sport can give.

Mr.Buttocks 04-11-2008 09:39 PM

American sports are shit.

Short Hand 04-12-2008 01:09 AM

Spot on post!!

I was 'pushed' into football (liverpool infact) from a young age, I actually wasnt that keen until I became older and more mature. The moment that actually tuned me into the avid fan I am today is when I went to a match - its one of the most fantastic feelings; being in an atmosphere of a liverpool match with everyone singing 'You'll never walk alone'. I mean shit, you only need to go to my local liverpool supporters pub to witness this kind of atmosphere!!

I totally agree with the cost of it - Once I have kids - i'd much rather spend £20 on a football than £200 on hockey/ american football gear or kit for most other sports for that matter only for me having to fork out another £200 6 months later as my kid has grown out of it.

Football/Soccor is a worldwide sport, you still havent given a 'legitimate' reason why this sport is so popular, apart from that its 'cheap' and forced on people - which of course are irelevant posts anyway.

Well I am back and frankly very surprised to see this thread on the front page. Must have been a fucking slow week here.
To put it short my travel from Northern Vermont to Manchester England... SUCKED. 3 hours to drive home, 2 hours to Boston Logan. I then sat around and my flight got delayed and left an hour late. 8 hours in the air to of all places Frankfurt Germany(I flew Lufthansa) only to discover that my connecting flight took off a few minutes after I had touched down. This gave me ample time to wait in line and re-book for a later flight and go from a 30 minute connection time to a 4.5 hour layover.
I then flew 2 more hours to Manchester only to get into the baggage area and wait another hour before they told us the conveyor belt had broken and it would be a while for our luggage. After I got my bag I made it out, met my Girl and drove to her place. Total time of being awake was somewhere around 38 hours.
Then it fucking snowed...
I'll post some pics later when I get back up to my comp in Vermont.
And no, I was not mugged and raped in Manchester.
And yes I had a good time in England.

Fluffy Bunny 04-13-2008 02:39 PM

All you slags need to come to London!

BTW I heard Miami is a good place to party, the Miami music winter conference is supposed to be quite similar to the parties in Ibiza. I may have to check that out!

[DAS REICH] Blitz 04-13-2008 04:33 PM

Do they have tea time in England?

Two types:

Tea time = Dinner = After lunch/Evening meal (varies according to accent) some people call it dinner some call it tea, some call it evening meal etc.

Tea time = cup of tea time = any time of day

Been slow for years now, :(

Pyro 04-14-2008 06:24 PM

The more important countries consider other sports to be more important.

though toronto is showing more spirit towards their MLS team then any team in the states imo.

Beckham lost to us as well

Anyways..i went to a game...it was enjoyable...based solely on the crowd...but it is still more enjoyable to go to a hockey or baseball game

either way...id like the hcampions leagues or whatever better...if it wasn't just a few insanly rich teams buying up all the good players.
