everyone of us is a potential murder...............

why you ask? cuz we're gamers. there's no other reason. saw this thing on tv called frist person shooter and according to professors and psycologists and other such professionals we all are capable of another columbine. my thinking on this? utter bullshit! these ppl cannot blame the entertainment gaming community for socities ills. to do so would just be passing the buck and the problems remain without resolution. granted 10yr olds should not be playing something like GTA3 but that's the parents responsibility. where the hell are they? i also resent these so called pros implying that i'm responsible for he next murder, regardless of the situation. their only solution would be to ban games like CS,GTA3 and perhaps even MoHAA. if this ever happens i'ld be glad to call myself an outlaw gamer. anyone else have a thought on this?

ninty 09-01-2002 05:17 PM

Nope. I just do what people tell me to do. I don't make my own decisions.

mr.miyagi 09-01-2002 05:25 PM

take the games out of the equation with just about everything else and we'll always be potential murderers, i've killed so many..bugs in my time.
what a stupid thing to say.
we could all be potential gardeners, spam handlers, monkey fanciers..fukin ANYTHIN.
of course we could be moydererz *looks over to art attack in the corner..... eek: turns around.. walks out of the room.. shuts door...runs*

Captain Bunny 09-01-2002 05:33 PM

Well of course both you and I know that in real life, running down 3 or more people in a car will not cause the vehical serious damage, and that you can still maintain a steady course, and not feel shaken in any way after a 60mph collision with a lamp post.
After a long hard day of slaughter playing GTA, i feel the need to go outside and wreck havoc with my handy rocket launcher, m60 and grenades.
[/sarcasm]

Im with you on this one. its total BS. if professors like that want to blame entertainment such as video games, we should also ban movies, tv dramas, anything that portrays a guy or gal killing someone. Newspapers will have to think up some boring stories to fill the pages where they would normally report about killings.
Why the hell dont we all just go live in caves...........ohh and about that, we all know what happens when you live in a cave for too long *cough* osama *cough*

I think shooter games take away my wanting to kill somebody because I kill people in the game fullfiling my need to kill. (I still kill ants by setting them on fire with grill lighter though(Fire good))

Sorry to go off topic, but when i was a kid i stuck a firework upside down into an ants nest.
Unfortunatly i didnt stand clear enough and was showered with some rather pissed off ants after the explosion.

There is no doubt that violence in games contributes to voilience in society.

But that and your topic question are totally different issues.

Is there a potential for us to kill since we have played games? I wouldn't doubt it. I think it would be pretty damn cool to be a commando and shoot osama and his dick suckers. And some people will translate that into killing innocent people.

Of course games are not the only factor to this but i believe they CAN contribute to it.

Captain Bunny 09-01-2002 06:04 PM

I feel rivalry between fans of sports team rivals is more of a cause of violence than computer games.

SoLiDUS 09-01-2002 06:06 PM

SoLiDUS to the rescue yet again...

Obviously, everyone has the potential to commit murder... just like they
have the potential to do practically anything they put their minds to insofar
as they encounter no physical or mental limitations because of an initial
defect. This, I would think, is obvious and of little relevance to the topic...

Video games do NOT push individuals to commit crimes: lack of control
does: if videogames didn't exist, I can almost guarantee you that the said
person would still snap and do something crazy after being pushed too far,
having less self-control than others. Also, keep in mind I am not talking
about warranted crimes, ie. forced based on life threats, assaulted by a
group, food theft to help feed family (although these can be debated, they
only serve as a crude example)...

Education also plays a part in this: your set and setting greatly affect your
upbringing but more importantly, your parents have the task of instructing
you; helping you understand what is considered right and wrong by society
in general and the established laws, what thought processes should be kept
in mind when a dire or otherwise challenging situation arises.

Finally, the best proof I can offer that videogames are not the problem is
simply this: the vast majority of gamers do NOT go out and kill, jump on
turles to grab their shells and throw them back at someone else or commit
some other felony/crime.

Most of us have enough self-control and common sense to draw the line
and "behave".

But this can be said for everything.

I smashed the guy in the face because i have no control over myself. Not because i saw some guy on tv do it.

And sorry but i'm not going to read the rest, i'm too lazy and i have to eat chinese food now.

Pyro 09-01-2002 06:39 PM

I just watched that on CTV at 7 pm eastern

basically the whole time I was laughing...psycologists etc. were more on the side that it doens't do anything

My take is that, if you are mad at someone now you can take it out on a virtual guy instread of an actual living person

i'm 17, so I can buy those games now...yay? why should my parents care what games i play, hey, at leats they know what the hell i'm doing at that point in time

Old Reliable 09-01-2002 06:41 PM

Chronic Diarrhea 09-01-2002 09:04 PM

Sometimes you get exercise by chasing obese wombats around downtown San Francisco.

Or you mean getting chased by obese woman?

09-01-2002 09:16 PM

AH shit!! I accidently pressed yes by accident. And how many times do I have to say it! Games does not promote violence, teletubbies does. Do you know how piss off I got when they showed that piece of crap for one hour. Wanted to get a gun and shoot up the whole TV station for real.

BallisticWookie 09-01-2002 09:54 PM

Firstly.....IT'S COMPUTER GAMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT Video games. The main reason young people are unstable and kill themselves or kill others ?? A bad upbringing without the proper "facts of life" drilled into them BY THEIR PARENTS. Parents are the factor here, NOT the games. I was brought up in a loving home, went to Church and Sunday school, went to a religious school (not that it did much for me), had and still have great friends, all the while watching violent movies and playing violent games and going down to the gun range with my Dad too pop a few rounds into paper targets. Am I a murdering psycho bastard ?? Hell no.

The upbringing of an individual is the major contributing factor in a person life further down the track. Brought up in a violent family, you'll more than likely (unfortunately) continue on that path of violence, ofcourse some do grow up to be responsible and caring people who wouldnt hurt a fly.

I'm glad the psychologists, as somebody said, were not pointing the blame solely on gaming as the basis for violent crimes, as it is just not true. Parents with bad children wil always try and find a scapegoat, unfortunately they are stupid and pigheaded enough to point the blame on games and the gaming industry. Shame on them.

Innoxx 09-01-2002 10:03 PM

And I Quote Ozzy Osbourne "ey mother F***ing f***ing idiots all f***ing blaming their f***ingproblems on uhhhh f***ing video games and s***, why f*** am i going to ????? ?????? ? ?????" Roughly Translated: Lets stop blaming video games and violent music for kids shooting poeple why not the guy who sold them the gun? or their screwed up parents?

1080jibber 09-01-2002 10:09 PM

i watched the show too, that guy that made the show let his son drop out of school so he could play computer games? the guy is retarted, making a one hour show about how computer games are violent and are bad for kids but yet he lets his son (looked like he was 13-15 years of age) DROP OUT OF FUCKIN SCHOOL what kind of parent is that!!!!!

that was one hour of my life i wasted, when i could have been playing BF1942!

intrestedviewer 09-01-2002 10:15 PM

just seing that one clip was enough. fire2: <------this smiley makes me want to kill....... bunch of diots.

warmonger 09-02-2002 04:05 AM

it's good to see some of you take this seriously. i think thre's a movement in the senate to drastically reduce the amout of game violence. if there is such a movement it has to be stopped now. remind these senator that the first amendment is still in effect! for those who agree that violent games contribute, why are you playing them then? as far as games go, any game, what does it say about parents who fight at a little league game, or whatever. btw, the poll is set for 7 days.

09-02-2002 11:45 AM

those killers they're messed up in the head. their brain dosent function correctly.

Pyro 09-02-2002 11:46 AM

hmm...Games come on CD for computer and console...we can call computer games videogames if we so desire

fuck at least console games have WAY better stories then the crock of shit stories we see on computers, we just need Blizzard to make all the games for everyone and we'll be set

Kraut Killer 09-02-2002 03:30 PM

Potential murderer? I am a murderer... and it's all because of the electronic media.
