I just looked the incident up and it was like this, Britney Spears was introducing him and when she was talking about how much she looked up to him she called him "the artist of the millenium" they gave him a little statue music note thingy for his birthday and he thought it was an award for Artist of the Millenium, an award which mtv say does not and has never existed.

Personally i think he has been a great musician, as ninty9 says, many chart toppers, and great hits.
Thiller is a classic, and his History album, is up there with the best albums ever.
As for for his wacky lifestyle, the less said about that the better, atleast he can take a joke though and appear in Men n Black 2 as an alien.

There wasn't a shred of information to verify this, since instead of having MORE of his personal life drug out by vicious lawyers, he settled out of court and bypassed all that.
