Problems with Mafia demo
 

Ok, I finally found a downloadable version of Mafia! Only problem is I don't have a weapon firing sound or voice! Anyone have this prob, or a way for me to fix it?

Download it again! My keeps frickin quitting on me i've already tried 4 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cry:

try running "dxdiag" and go to the sound tab and turn acceleration all the way off.

whats dxdiag? and how do I run it?

Just go into Add/Remove programs and try uninstalling EAX Unified or something to that extent, because I was looking through the extracted files and I saw some EAX thing and I clicked on it, and it was that thing, and I noticed it had installed when I was uninstalling other things. I had no problems, except Paule and all the other guys voices sounded real bad. I didn't uninstall it though, it's just something you might try.

The DXdiag trick is the way to go for most sound problems on mafia (and to get a decent frame rate)

Go to RUN in the start menu, type in dxdiag, then when its opened click on the sound tab and slide the acceleration handle down to no acceleration.
However, seeing as you dont know what dxdiag is, be sure to check you have version 8.1 installed.
If you dont, http://www.microsoft.com/directx is where you need to go or see if direct x 8.1 is on any game discs you have.

Yeah, I'm surprised, my framerates on much more compelling games like NOLF2 and Hitman 2 are perfect, but in Mafia it's just crap, especially when I get down to about the 3rd floor in the parking garage.
