Open it up, and check to see if there are any cords loose in the fan. If not, the fan's wings may be hitting the fan rims. Have a good look at the fan, spin it around a few times.

It happened to me once, there was a cord stuck in the fan.

ahh ic, thanx, but isn't the harddrive part of it too?

Grab the screw driver, and rip the thing apart. Check all the fans. I bet its just the cooling fan.

Just remember to turn the computer off, and unplug the power cord. =)

Also, don't forget to stay grouded by keeping a part of your body touching a metal part of your case, especially if you're on carpet. Static electricity is a computer's worst enemy.

clean the dust off the fan

or could it be the beginning of a hard drive going out. they make noise like that mostly on boot up.

Get a bottle of oil or WD-40, take the sticker off the ball-bearing cover on the fan (the middle) and add 1, ONE drop of oil, or WD-40. Replace the sticker, spin the fan a few times in both directions, then plug it back in.
