Black Hawk Down Single Player Demo

Well, I downloaded it expecting not much at all, what I did get was an atmosphere, not unlike the movie but gameplay that is a bit on the off side. Running around outside is fine, no worries at all. Get inside a building, gameplay slows to a crawl and it's very hard to control, mouse goes sluggish and its very hard to shoot anything. The graphics are great, sound is very well done too. Reminded me very much of the constant radio chatter in the movie. If you liked the movie and have a decent PC to play it on, GET IT !

I was skeptical at the start, this game is based on a subject still fresh in many peoples minds and hearts. The "Mog" incident only occured roughly 10 years ago, but when is alright (EVER!) to depict war or conflict in a computer game ? My view on such things has changed dramatically over the past year, and the looming idea of myself going to war has changed my point of view. Anyways, great FPS, but dont forget what actually happened there.

Anyone else getting fu><0|23d performance ?? Or maybe it's time for me to upgrade ??

Is the gameplay like the original Delta Force series?

Sergeant John W Martin 01-09-2003 10:24 AM

when does the single player game come out!

Is this the same demo that came out months ago? If so it was kind of a pain in the ass because it was at night and you had to use the nightvision goggles to see. Because Delta Force graphics suck all the enemys blend in with the background. The whole helicopter thing was cool though and the market map was huge.

I agree, the graphics are good, the sound is good, but yeah, as soon as you go in the building, BAM, sluggish as hell and i'm running a:

P4 1.5ghz
256 Ram
Ge Force 4 TI 4200 128 Meg vid card
80gig HDD 7200 rpm

and yeah, it's sluggish once in the building, hope they fix that before final release..looks like it will be a good game when done

the book was better

Hmmpff.

They asked Mark Bowden to help make it more 'realistic', but he turned it down because it was an 'insult' to the soldiers who fought there so to say.

I agree 100% completly.

A good movie comes out (AKA SPR and BHD) and hundreds of games trails behind it to rake up profits, NOT supporting those vets.

/rant over

Well yeah if they depict shit that didn't happen then it's an insult to the veterans and the Somalian people cos it would just show em getting their arse whooped by the Americans which surprisingly didn't really happen.

For instance in the demo you practically shoot anything that moves in the street, I thought that Somalis would hide behind civilians to take advantage of Americans rules of engagements. I didn't see that in the game. Also you can get shot down by an RPG when your in the Little Bird. hake: didn't happen.

The situation in Somalia is a real touchy subject to make a game about though. It didnt happen all that long ago.

Actually they did get an ass-whooping by the Americans

Actually, the Somali's did get their ass whooped by the Americans. When the US went in with force, ie, US Marines, the warlords couldnt do a thing. Mixed with the Australians, Malays, Paki's, the Mog was shut tight and any militia fighting was quickly brought to an end. It was only when the large contingent of US Marines pulled out after their tour that things started to collapse and the UN sanctioned forces were targetted by the militias. The militia did always hide behind women and children, they did on the occasion in "BHD" but other than that, they would drive around in there "technicals" and cause trouble, ambush patrolling soldiers or loot and steal from Red Cross centre's.

The "BHD" incident was neither a loss nor a win. 1000's of Somali militia were killed by a relatively small force of highly trained soldiers. I hardly think that comes into the area of "getting their ass kicked". If anything, the Somali's should have come away with the lesson of "those US soldiers are good, we just got a hiding", instead they hooped and hollard like they won, which is not the case at all. The US objective for the mission was not met, but it hardly constitutes a loss. The US soldiers showed their worth, and they got themselves out of harms way, if thats not a minor victory, I dont know what it is.

Did the US learn from this...I hope they did. If the troops had been allocated the armour and air support that the General had requested, things would have been different, ALOT different.

And as far as insulting the Somali population...I really dont give a flying fuck about them. They shot the UN forces in the back after they went in there to try and feed them, to try and restore order, if they wont accept that then too bad for them. They did their part, and werent accepted, if the Somali's want to starve then thats their prerogative.
