Lag in games is less at Max settings?

My computer has a geforce 3 ti 200, and a 1.3 gig duron processor. I know the processor is not made for games oOo: Also got 768 mb of the crapy RAM, and some sound blaster live platinum card.
When i play any game and test it out on low settings it will lag. Anything like battlfield to Moh and others. But, when i crank up the graphics to max the lag goes away. It runs smooth increasing FPS by a lot. Could it be that since many of the objects are smoother and round at max help out processing it and make it go faster? oOo: This has always confused me since everyone always says turn down the graphics if a game lags.

That is weird. Higher settings = higher polygon count (among other things) = smoother/rounder graphics = more processing power needed. I don't know why you're getting that.

higher graphics = vid card handles more

Yeah, same thing with me. I tried testing out MoH on my other comp. (1.1 GHz Athlon, Gf2 MX400, 384 Ram) and I set it to 800x600 with everything on low, I barely pulled 17 FPS. Then I put everything up to max in 16-bit with Bilinear and boom, 55 FPS steady. Dunno why it does that.

Screw it, if turning up ur graphics is helping your ping, then I say stick with it.

edit button still not here..urm and that at a screen res of 1024x768

Same thing with Mafia. On my other computer (1.7 GHz, Gf4 Ti4200, 128 MB, 512 Ram) It ran pretty slow with 1024x768 and 2x Anti-Aliasing, everything else maxed out. It was expected, as the demo was slow too. So, I turned off Anti-Aliasing, turned up the resolution to 1280x960, left everything the same, boom. At least 20-30 FPS more, and it looked so much better. Still dunno why.
