German Helmets

I just recieved my german SS m42 helmet in the mail today. all orig except for the paint in which some idiot kid panted over the helmet decals. does anybody know what color/paints i should use to give it that "SS Field Gray"?

also wondering if anybody else has a few german helmets.

I do World War Two Reenactments with the 12thSS Hitlerjugden out of Minnesota and a lot of the Midwest. I own a few helmets, search the web for the exact color because I'm not going to try and type it out how I heard it in German.

Your best bet would to find a model shop that has a wide variety of paints and take it in and ask a professional what they think

there is also SS runes and some serrial number on the inside of the shell saying "43' Ef3852" now ive done a lil bit of research and 43 is the year it was made, and Ef is the manufactorer's assigned code: "Emaillerwerk AG, Fulda" i also might see a name scratched in it. or it might just be a price.

Ferich what color? should i take all the old paint off? is there some sorta sand i mix with the paint to give it that "rough" texture?

it also came with an origonal Waffen SS Overprint/Plane Tree Number 1/2 Helmet Cover

Post a picture of it, or just PM me.

i dont have a picture of it, but im looking to restore it similar to this

Yeah, I use a WW2 era Flecktarn camo cover for my Helmet, so I don't rely much on the color of the helmet itself. Just search around the web, you'll find military antique sites with paint and such on them.

Lol, didn't even see that Jason.

How much money have you drooped into reenacting Alan? Must be thousands, eh? Expensive hobby. Do you have to drive or fly half way around the country for reenactments?

Ferich 05-21-2003 11:15 PM

Most of it is done in the Midwest, or near Minnesota ( which is where I go to college) . Yes it's very expensive, except I can rent a lot of things from the guy who runs it, including uniforms for the different reenactments we're perusing. Just save up a ton of money, it's worth the saving. I'm getting Jason into it, you're next Jeff. evil:

Haha, yeah I could get into it pretty easily.

A guy in my regiment has his own reenactment group here in Calgary.

That's him on the left, and hes sitting infront of the armoury where I am every wednesday.
