Front page of the newspapers today. Prince william turns 21. Well, firstly I along with a good deal of others dont give a shit but the artical was taking the utter piss.

He was having a normal 21 year old birthday party with a south african theme with his uni friends etc. which is fair enough. I had a high school theme for mine (any excuse to get my female companions to dress in a slutty school uniform)
Anyway, it went on to say this "normal" party cost £500,000.
I mean wtf kind of "normal 21 year olds" birthday party is that?
Normal for the royals maybe, at the taxpayers expense.
Yet another reason why i feel the UK has no need for a monarchy in this day of age.

Many years ago the royals inspired Parliment to take up arms and fight them. Cavaliers vrs roundheads. Parliments roundheads won, they executed the king, destroyed a heap of castles.....and restored the monarchy. dumb bastards!!!

The Queen is supposed hold power in the UK. every prisoner is scenetenced on her majestys pleasure. British army fights for queen and country, the police serve her majesty. load of tosh if you ask me. We get a queens speech every so often, prince charles, heir to the throne usually makes a twat of himself on a world tour visiting poor people in africa...
The queen rarely smiles, She is the only living person allowed to be on postage stamps.
Unfortunatly the worst aspect is that each year thousands of stupid americans and japanese visit london to get a glimps of the queen, doing wonders for the tourist industry. STOP IT!!!
That aside, the publics taxes pay her wages, Lego land is at the bottom of her garden in Windsor, and the papers spend a lot fo time finding scandals within the royal family just to fill their pages.
Prince william attends st andrews university in Fife, scotland...a few miles from where i live. Doing some stupid art degree, which means fuck all in the real world. But he is only in scotland on the PR basis that it would connect scotland with the royals. blah blah blah!
Prince harry has finished school and is taking a year out before joining the army. But he has already been administrating troop inspections in the cadets. No bullshit for him, he'll get promoted untill their is no room for medals up his arse. He is unlikely ever to see combat.... except on tv or from behind a desk.

In short, the royals today get all the previlages the public can sometimes only dream of, and its all paid from out of our pockets. By law which hasnt chaged, it is still technically legal to be beheaded for treason, but that would never happen. ohh, and the queen is above the law. strictly speaking she could kill someone and noone could touch her, but their would be a public outcry anyway... but its stupid laws and regulations from centueries ago that still apply today which is severly fucked up.

Its a far cry from when, in centuries ago the monarchy actually stood for something. Kings would lead troops into battle, they were men to be respected, the king or queen decided laws, had a genuine say in everything, and usually had the last word.
Then they all became hoity toity snobby gits whose idea of a hard days work running the country involved tea and cakes and signing a few death warrants, and its basically gone downhill from there.
In short, the monarchy stands for nothing these days. They would not be missed in my view.
Many reacon that when the queen kicks the royal bucket, there may be a public vote as to weather prince charles to take over the throne. it may not happen in charles time, but i doubt very much that prince william will ever get the chance to be king.
