How do I rip scenes from dvds to make sigs?

I'm looking for some great pics for sigs and for my clans site, I want to rip scenes from some of my dvds because they would make great pics, I know its possible because I see them here all the time on peoples sigs. How do you do it? How do you capture scenes from dvds save them as jpg's or whatever and use them for graphics work?
