Okay, on the single player demo, I can load up the game change all sorts of prefrences and also play the game for a bit. Have it be 1-15min. Then all the sudden it crashes, screen freezes and the music goes into this infinate loop. Then it kicks me to the desktop. This happens both in windows 2000 and windows 98, both with fresh format/reinstalls. Sometimes the game will actually just reboot the system. Here are my system specs:
ECS K7AMA motherboard
1.2ghz Thunderbird
512MB Crucial DDR ram
VisionTek Geforce3 Ti200 detonator xp 23.11 drivers
onboard sound and nic
30gig Maxtor 5200RPM
60gig Western Digital 7200RPM


BTW.
I have tried installing the retail version of the game that is running around at work to see if it was just the demo, and the same thing happened on both opperating systems.

Have you tried experimenting with different video card driver versions?

Try backing down a version number or so and see if that helps. Sometimes the very latest driver is not the best with EVERY system.
