Questions about installing a new video card....

ok I want to get a better video card. But whats been bothering me is that if my motherboard is compatible with the card and my power supply is good enough. How would I know these two plus how do I know what mother board and power supply I havE?

im not sure if this well tell you but if you goto http://www.google.com and search up AIDA32 click on the frist link download AIDA32 and the program should tell you pretty much every thing about your computer

you may be able to get enough information by goin to start, run,
then typing in dxdiag, then enter. MUCH less detailed than aida, but also much simpler to navigate.

Are you getting an AGP card ? PCI card ? Is your power supply an ATX ? If
so, it should be 350W. If you need an external or internal power supply for
your video card, you know you've paid too much for it :P

I run a GF4 Ti4200 on a 150w Generic PSU. :\

Actually I think it's 100w :|

Doubt it would be that low, taking into acount cpu and all ur pc would have to be really slow like 500-800 mhz max.

What Operating System are you running?

Stinger_Dude 08-13-2003 01:11 AM

I'm running WinXP.

If you don't already know, find out what type of card you have now. You can do this by either:

A) Start>Settings>Control Panel>Display: Settings Tab>Advanced button>Adapter Tab.

OR

B) Start>Settings>Control Panel>System: Hardware Tab>Device Manager button>Display Adapters

Tell us exactly what card is there now.

i have a Geforce 440 MX 32mb. But what I'm looking for is if for example a GF Ti4600 will be compaitable with my PC.

Sergeant_Scrotum 08-13-2003 10:09 AM

why cant they just give cards normal names?

gf2, gf3, gf4, instead theirs T's & about 4 other digits thrown in there. why cant they make these things simple? cry:

Yes. A 32MB GeForce 4 440 MX is a AGP 4X card. A GF4 Ti4600 will work in your PC. Although, I would suggest a slightly better card, such as the RADEON 9700 Pro. It had a bit of an edge over the Ti4600, and a better price.
