Gun safety presenter shoots self

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children in what police describe as an accident. His bosses, however, are still investigating the incident.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was speaking April 9 to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. He then pulled back the slide and asked an audience member to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded.

Witnesses said when the agent released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh. The gun was pointed at the floor.

The agent was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center and returned to work, a DEA official said.

irony strikes again

Im pretty confused on if he removed the magazine, then pulled back the slide... How was there a bullet in the chamber? In every handgun Ive ever fired when the slide is pulled back after the magazine is released if there was a round in the chamber the round ejects leaving a safe weapon. The story doesnt make sense

Maybe he cocked it and then took the mag off. That would result in a round in the chamber, but your right, if he took the mag off first and cocked it, the round should be ejected.

the only other thing I can think of is if the round isn't ejected until the slide is put forward again. If he cocked it back and asked the student to look in it and then it went off, that is possible. Thats why you cock twice after removing the magazine. The first ejects the round. The second you can look in the chamber to make sure there isn't anything there.

sounds like a defective weapon to me, generally the chambered round ejects oOo:

What the hell was he doing with live rounds? He could used blanks for an example.

$10 says it was a kid in the audience that shot him.

Blanks are still very dangerous.

What stupid fuck in there right mind would cock there gun b4 ejecting there magazine for a presentation?

anyway it does say he "He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. He then pulled back the slide and asked an audience member to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded."

the story isnt accurate unless the bullet was jammed then there is no way a bullet was in the chamber

when he was pulling back the slide he probably had is finger on the trigger and pulled it.
