Farenheit 9-11
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361596/
[quote:35b00]a documentary that will trace why the U.S. has become a target for hatred and terrorism. It will also depict alleged dealings between two generations of the Bush and bin Laden clans that led to George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden becoming mortal enemies. [/quote:35b00] what do you guys think about michael moores latest movie. At the Cannes Festival, he had the longest standing ovation in the history of the festival.. Personally, i cant wait to see it. Bowling For Columbine was great, and Im sure this will too. Opinions? |
while i have lost little bits of respect for Mr Moore, i do really want to see this :).

If it pwned Cannes then it's gotta be good.

So? he's entitled to his views, is he not? Free speech. You don't have to watch it. In fact, you can make your own anti-democratic bullshit/pro-republican bullshit film anytime you want. Last I heard Mirimax had dropped the rights to distribute the film because there was some stuff on there that they didn't want to have anything to do with or something to the effect. Don't quote me on that, however they did drop the distribution of the film. So currently they are looking for a distributor, if they can't find one, its going to be hard to see it. It won't be in theaters and it won't be on DVD if no one wants to distribute it. I do want to see it though. |

Buena Vista/Disney dropped distribution of the film in AMERICA (overseas it already has a distributer), and Mirimax is looking to buy the film back (here) from Disney. It was dropped because (rightly so) Disney feared it would be seen as a piece of endorsement of John Kerrys presidential bid (since Uncle Fat Ass has gone on RECORD as saying he wants to use this movie to get Bush out of the White House), which also brings up all kinds of campaign finance violations.
I have no problem with more presenting his OPINION, but when he does so through manipulation, and distorting of the facts theres a problem then. Case in point: In BFC, he plays a piece of footage of Heston saying "From my cold dead hands" after Moore points out that the convention for the NRA went forward despite the shooting death of a young black child a day earlier. The problem is that piece of footage is from an entirely DIFFERENT convention, before the shooting ever took place. Of course, juxtaposed against the story, it makes him seem like a prick for saying these comments "so soon after the tragedy". |
Oh, its right in the trivia section:
In May 2003 Disney (which owns Miramax, the film's distributor) told Miramax that it would not be willing to distribute the film. In May 2004, Michael Moore announced that Disney had officially prohibited Miramax from releasing the film and expressed his frustration that the film was being stifled. Disney said that the decision had been made a year before and chief executive, Michael Eisner, said that Moore was announcing it to create publicity for the film's screening at the Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, British distributor Optimum Releasing announced that it would be distributing the film in the UK in the summer of 2004. |

Not sure how valid that is, just what I heard. Edit: Nevermind... Guess I should have refreshed. |
