Software Issues

Okay, something is fucked up, and I think it's a software conflict:

When ever I leave mIRC or MSN for a short period of time (10 - 20 Minutes), then come back, everything looks like its running fine, although nothing has changed since I last checked it.

Then, when I go to either type something in a channel on IRC, or change my status on MSN, the programs act up. IRC will just disconnect me, while MSN will pop-up a message saying that the status could not be changed, then it disconnects straight after.

Does anyone know whats going on? I think it has something to do with my other internet software like a firewall or something conflicting.

BTW - This is what comes up in the status window on IRC after it disconnects:

* [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
* Disconnected

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here. This is entirely frustrating.

That usually happens when you have a ping time-out. Your software has noticed this and attempts to reconnect to the server for you. That is why it disconnects.

I take it you're on 56k? If so, then you'll experience this problem more than your usual IRC user.
I'm on 1.5mb 385k ADSL, I usually have a ping time-out at least once per session.
We suffer from ping time-out because our pings suck compared to the server, which is located in the US (AFAIK).

Your MSN promblem sounds fucked. Download the software again and re-install it.
It could also be your screen saver. My pc would hang severely when the screen saver activated. Fixed that by setting it to only show a blank screen when activated. Also check the power saving settings, sometimes these settings can screw you around a little.

Good luck! beer:

Hello. Nah, I be on DSL......The reason I think it's a software issue, and not just a regular ping time-out, is because it never used to happen like this on my old set-up (Before my new pc, and before the network set-up I have - Which jew actually helped me set-up if you remember. happy: )...

Regardless, I guess I can deal with it. I just like to be able to idle every now and then without being dropped out of the IRC channels.

Now I must go re-install MSN.

Thx heaps m8.

Happens to me all the time.

Are you using the newest version of IRC. I was for awhile and it never happened.
