IBM's are less expensive and are about the same as Intel's processors. However if you want long lasting reliability, Intel biggrin: Thats just an opinion though.

Bean 2 05-28-2004 06:35 PM

thanks. im more looking for price but i want reliability as well.

Maplegyver 05-28-2004 06:51 PM

i have an athalon. it runs fine.

Madmartagen 05-28-2004 06:56 PM

I have an AMD, I hear its great for overclocking, but I havent dont that to mine. My first was a P3 450mhz and it was great. I think Intel makes the best, but its just an uneducated guess.

ShagNasty 05-28-2004 07:24 PM

new AMD owns pent.

Bean 2 05-28-2004 07:41 PM

AMD 64 bit by a long shooot. + It will be equipped for 64 bit OS of the future.'

AMD = cheap and relaible, i stil have a old duron 500 mhz i beleive going like brand new in another room. CPU's are never really the wear out part, most HD's will fail before it. Just keep um kool and all will be fine. biggrin:

Bean 2 05-28-2004 07:44 PM

Yea i think ill go with the AMD. Thanks fellas.

Swill 05-28-2004 07:49 PM

Unless you intend on doing a lot of computationally-intensive tasks like
MP3 encoding, video encoding and using CAD applications, there's simply
NO REASON to purchase a P4 when an Athlon XP/64 at half the price and
speed will outperform it in almost every respect. I've recently assembled
a really nice gaming rig on the A64+KT800 architecture and it has yet to
let me down... Farcry runs like a dream and Windows XP loads in 10 secs...
