Looks like if you have less than a 9800 Pro, you're fucked.

Thank the Goddess I went with a 6800GT instead of a X800 Pro.

It's not something you can test yourself, it's just an article by [H] that shows the performance of 9800XT and up.

fujimi7su 07-22-2004 06:22 PM

sorry didnt read much

ATI still > nvidia IMO

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:26 PM

Not with the newest series. I'd recommend ATI for any card before the X800 Pro. But once you get into the $400 range, Nvidia is back with a vengence. First of all you can't buy X800XT-PEs or 6800Us anywhere so that limits you to waiting for a backordered product that hasn't been released or getting a 6800GT/X800 Pro. The 6800GT is just the all around better card.

fujimi7su 07-22-2004 06:28 PM

its a major price jump for a little performance diff IMO.. ill wait til theyre around 200

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:31 PM

Double the performance over last generation is a little performance difference?

There hasn't been a release with performance increases this big since the 9700 Pro.

very true, this is the FIRST "review" or benchmarking i've seen where the x800 xt loses to the 6800. every single other benchmarking site, or review of this card i've seen, the "conclusion" said the x800 xt pe will be better then the 6800. dont forget, you have to buy a big ass powersupply to support the 6800.

Mr.Buttocks 07-22-2004 06:33 PM

Pfffft! annoy:

I run my 6800GT past Ultra speeds on 350W PSU that came in a $20 case. Those power requirements are complete and utter bullshit.

Himmler 07-22-2004 06:35 PM

if so, i'd like to see some fps in doom when you get it

Sirus 07-22-2004 06:36 PM

Akuma, u know anything about the doom 3 multi player portion of the game

What benchmarks have you been reading? For the most part in d3d x800xt kicks the ever loving shit out of any nvidia board, even the fabled farcry patch with shadermodel 3.0 support which was supposed to give nvidia an advantage in terms of framerate still has ati out on top. Nvidia is a little faster in opengl, but ati is rewriting their opengl driver so expect performance boost there as well.
