PKM goes on and on and on
there have been times while mapping where i'll create a brush, texture it and then move onto another part of the map. before i close radiant, i'll double check what i've added durring that mapping session and yep, the brushes and textures are there. i'll compile and then test the .bsp in maps/dm and more times than not, where there should have been a textured brush, there's now only empty "see through" space. the texture is still there (you can bounce a 'nade off of it/not walk through it) but it looks like an empty space with the textured brushs around it visible through it. most of the time if i just start over and replace it, it'll fix the problem but sometimes it takes 3 or 4 replacements and compiles for it to finally show up in the .bsp. anyone else have this problem ?
also, near one of my buildings i have a very thin gray line that kinda looks like a splinpath that i know i didn't put in there. it shows up in the camera view as a white line and in the top and side views as the gray line. even if i switch the grid to 1, i can't "select" it. anyone else have this problem ? |
Post a pic bud looks like you made it out of caulk 1st but 4 some reason the texture isnt stayin.

Scorp[/quote:43c65] that's what i figured is going on, there are so many friggin' schools of thought on caulking (plus i found out by accidental research i may be using the wrong caulk) |
Always use caulk and the 1 to use is just called caulk. Its mad cos there are 2 i think

this is why I dont map
|
scorp, so i just click on the right caulk (i think it's the second one shown in the common folder) and while the caulked brush is highlighted, go on and texture it ?
i'm with you GS, this is going to be the sixth time i've restarted mapping this map because with just adding one 8x16x42 brush my compile time jumped from 2 hours to "no end in sight". (i only added the big blue PSFS sign on top of the PSFS building..and my compile time jumped big time.......this building is just part of the philly map) |
I wanna jump off it!!!!!! rock: rock: rock:
|
lol apoch, and that's not the highest building either. if you'd jump off the PSFS building (unless it's the blue side (north)) you'd bounce off of about three other roofs before hitting the ground.

There are 2 caulk textures 1 is just called caulk (thats the 1 u use)
The other is blank light (dont use) So yeah you just select the brush/face u want to texture and thats it. A god tip is select the caulk texture and build your map and then texture it afterwards. BTW that compile time seems huge how big is the map? Dont forget you can make things detail and use some other tricks to get the same effect and cut compile time Scorp |
yeah scorp, i've been reading up on the detail deal. still not clear on exactly what you would detail (every tut says "whatever you don't want to be seen") but i think it means anything not dealing with a wall, floor, ceiling, ground, sky. most of my map is exterior (lot of climbing up and down skyscrapers to make up for lack of interior play).
the map's kinda big it's dims are x=6008 y=5688 z=3712 but nothing outrageous (no more than CN:Daylight in width and length) i'll proably try and get with you on msn messenger later this week to go over a couple mapping questions i have. |
geniuses at work

and detail some stuff like poles or other small stuff.

_-=WB=-_Cobra had this same problem and got an answer from the mod theater telling him to cut a hole in his skybox so more like could escape and he said it worked well for him, dono if you knew this already though.. |
"cut a hole in the skybox" ?!
wouldn't that leave an "infinity area" ? where would i cut it ; l,r,up,d ? if a hole, what size ? it just sounds strange, moto but then again stranger things have worked. anyone else know of this ? if i get some support for the question and it works, i'll owe ya big time, moto.........why i'd even give you a free copy of this map ! |
