I need some Computer help...
We bought a new p4 3.0 a few months ago, and it has worked like a charm. Lately though my parents have been complaining its slow, so I went on their names to take a look. They used IE and programs like that, so I thought I would run antivir, adaware, and SB Search and Destroy. When I run it a NT Authority Logout commences and restarts the computer. I cant figure out how to stop it...It weird, everything works fine on my username and everything is extremely fast. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Well, now NT Authority/System shutdown starts when I run any kind of anti virus program. EDIT |
hmm thats an interesting one. check and see how many processes are running in the backround. ctrl alt del > processes tab. anything over 30 and you got major spyware running. it could be the nasty kind which hides in your registry. both adaware and spybot have trouble rectifying this kind of spyware.
if it has been running fine for a number of months, and all of the sudden you have been experiencing this problem, then it definately sounds like a virus. go to the forums of symantec, norton or macafee etc. and post your symptoms, chances are they will help you from there. |
I think thats what it is...spyware. Effing parents, heh. Anyways, I can run adaware, but it shuts down after 60 seconds. There are like 300 + new objects found. Ah, I tried so hard keeping this computer clean. Can you tell me a way to stop it from shutting down? Then I can clear it.

Sounds like the Blaster worm, or something similar. When the shutdown thing appears click Start>Run and type cmd and hit return. When the prompt appears type shutdown -a and hit return. That should stop it from rebooting. Then run a good anti-virus.
Edit: Actually you can just type "shutdown -a" into the Start>Run box. |

it could be the coolsearch or some shit like that hijacker. it has implemented defense in it that would not allow it to be removed by spybot and others. my dad had it on his computer and the computer would restart every time it finished the scan and tried to delete.
I ended up having to reinstall the OS |
