Game developers rant

[quote:c630b]He asked the audience to support online distribution, any mechanism that'll work alongside of retail to get games out to people. [/quote:c630b] Funny, i thought games were already "readily available" online Theyre pretty much stating the gaming industry has zero innovation and is fucked, one actually said "we are fucked" ed: |
They sound a bit pessimistic about the whole thing to me, but I guess they know the most about it.

“Everything that can be invented has been invented.” – Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. Patent Office, 1899
Saying that innovation is dead and that nothing new is coming in the world of gaming is like saying that the world will end next tuesday. Maybe it seems like the industry is stagnant, but business is almost always cyclical. I'd predict that someone invents some new technology or develops some new method in the next 10 years, and everyone rides the money wave. It's just ridiculous to predict that innovation and new ideas are all dried up. |
For people that make a decent amount of money for making VIDEO GAMES, they sure do complain a lot. They all seem like asshats placing blame on people or the market/industry that is what it is.

That same analogy could be used for people who make toilets, I'm sure it's just as fun to make a toilet as it is to shit in one. |
Honestly...if games went back to the way they were in the 90s...it would probably be a step forward in overall quality.

I don't lknow if its just me but I can't get into any new games. I still love MOH and bf1942 though and play them. But BIA and COD, I could not get into them at all. right now iv been playing brothers in arms I just can't get into that "you feel like your actully the person in the game" mode. I don't feel any suspence, I die? oh well. Im just plain out bored sleeping:. We need some really cool new inovations in gaming. Im still hoping bf2 will catch my interest however.

I played MoHAA for 2 years, I only played CoD for about 6 months. Kinda strange but I agree, I have a hard time getting into new games also. |

I figured since they went through all that training they might have a passion for making video games and enjoy their jobs. I'm sure there's someone out there that enjoys their job fabricating toilets. |

If you're in the game industry it's generally because you had an interest in computers and/or games/consoles. No one decides at the end of high school, "Gee, I had an interest in taking huge shits in toilets...! I wanna work with toilets. That really does seem like the best industry for me." When they start out, people generally choose the gaming industry based on an interest in gaming etc... nag: |
