Airsoft AEG selection.

After a recent event involving my paintball group, basically all of them bitching out. I've decided to move into the realm of airsoft, since while at the paintball shop i found out they did airsoft as well, including a large group that plays every other weekend.

They have a nice ICS m4 at the shop, similar if not exactally the same as this one[/url:688db]. Pretty sure its exactally the same.

Then theres the classic army[/url:688db] ones that seem just as nice. Then theTokyo Marui[/url:688db]. The Tokyo's dont seem to be up to the quality of the other two.

I want a full metal, everything, basically. Im only looking at m4 style weapons. Im not to concerned about the cost. I want a nice high quality, top of the line, king of the hill, grand master, big kahuna, airsoft m4 AEG. Fit and finish are paramount. Right now the ICS seems to be that weapon, but i figured i would check the database (you) of airsofters around here.

Please provide links to any weapons you suggest.

Classic Army. Go for Classic Army.

If your ready to pay for it, theres heaps of places.

Found this on airsoftextreme.com[/url:1ac19]:

What are the laws for airsoft in Canada? I have been thinking about getting a pistol or rifle.

I disagree, I'm know a guy who ran an online site selling airsoft, mostly to local guys. He wouldnt even warranty classic army's guns, they are simply unreliable. While they DO look nice, you will likely have lots of problems in the field with them. At all the events I've gone to (scenarios with 50+ guys, ex swat members, marines), 95% of them use Tokyo Marui. TM is simply the most reliable quality manufacturer out there. They are simple to upgrade with new motors, gears, springs, and bodies aswell. TM is definitly the industry standard as of now. Just dont get too caught up on how classic army looks nice, there are always metal body kits for TM guns.

Im actaully leaning towards the ICS. I talked to the guy who worked there who owns one himself. He said it was awesome out of the box, and its easy dissasembly/ internals swap were a nice feature.

The guy said he bought an upgrade package and was shooting about 400 fps, upgraded his BB's and was down to 350 with good grouping. Plus the easy swap out ment if something happened to the internals set you could pop it open and just swap out, and your back in action.

I dont really feel like spending 250+ on a weapon to have to turn around and spend 200+ more on it to make it something that i enjoy. The upgraded internals arnt nessisary for the ICS but might be a down the road thing. Anyone have an opinion on it?

They're actually like little soft foam bb sized balls...

Miscguy 05-08-2005 02:47 PM

Paintballs are surprizingly painful depending on where your hit and by what. Airsoft is probably just as bad the only differance is that airsoft is a pin prick compaired to the slam you get with a paintball.

Airsoft also opens up better tactics based on the ballistics of the rounds fired. Airsoft rounds fly better for longer, there also harder to track when incoming.

Also there just plastic pellets, not foam.

The only problem i have with paintball is the operational cost. I could go play on a field and still have fun without my friends. The fact is it cost about $80 - $100 to play one outting. Paint cost me 80 this last time i bought it, then field fees. Not to mention that you need airtanks, and a place to refill those. With airsoft you run on batteries that can be recharged and last longer, and you can always have a backup one lying around for like 20 - 50 bucks. Where as a back up airtank will cost 150 - 200. On a field not a huge issue since they will have refills, but in the woods like i prefer to play, its an issue. The cost of airsoft ammo is also considerably cheaper. 2000 paintballs cost anywhere from 60 - 100 bucks, where as you can get 5000 bb's for like 20 - 30.

Ya you can play Airsoft like paintball. Except you can't use the gas guns, or metal bb's.

I had a CA M4 a couple years back. The quality was pretty nice, however, it broke. The first day I had it the safety broke and after awhile it just stopped firing completely. Their support, of course, was some asian woman that yelled something along the lines of "WHY YOU TAKE GUN APART?" at me and wasn't able to understand it doesn't fucking work.

I've had a TM M1A1 Thompson for several years now and I've never had a problem with it.

You can use gas guns, most people have a gas pistol for a backup gun they always carry. And yes, the bbs are not foam and are not soft. They hurt! Especially under 50 feet or so.

Stammer 05-08-2005 06:29 PM

You can use gas? I always though those things could pierce through clothing and goggles.
