[quote:6c828]KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A 124-pound blue catfish caught by an Illinois man died on its way to an outfitter store here, where it was to be displayed in an aquarium.

Fred Cronin, a fisheries biologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, told The Kansas City Star that the stress of being transported may have proved too much for the old, heavy fish. [/quote:6c828]

damn. Wouldn't doubt it either there's some big cats out there, especially the river ones.

Short Hand 05-26-2005 10:46 AM

man.. I am surprised fish like that don't take you for a swim while trying to reel them in..

Airborne Butters 05-26-2005 11:02 AM

Although cat fish are big, check out these mothers.

Their called Tarpon, or Poon. BIG ass fish. Some people catch em on fly rods, but most are caught on heavy rigged rods. Extremely hard fighting fish! Takes about 30-45 mins to get in the bigguns. A probelm with the fish is that after you fight em, get em and realese em, sharks come up and just demolish the poor things.

Anyways, that is one fat fucking catfish. The thing must have just floated around and ate all day long.

The fish is an alligator gar, staple foods: fish and alligators (hence the name) Uses: scales have been used as spear heads and armor by native americas

[quote:dbb4c]The rod and reel world record alligator gar weighed 290 lb, and the trot line, or unrestricted division record weighed 302 lb. Both were caught in the Rio Grande River back in the 1950s, and measured a little over 7-1/2 ft in length.[/quote:dbb4c]
