New Orleans

Good luck and God bless. They are going to be owned by hurricane Katrina. Put it on CNN, and check it out. Could be the largest hurricane ever. Category 5. Could submerge New Orleans in 10-15 feet of water.

Kinda makes the tragically Hip song a little creepy.

Hopefully the damage is not as catastrophic as forecasted.

[DAS REICH] Blitz 08-28-2005 08:32 PM

What time is it supposed to hit?If its as bad as they predicted, holy sh** ed:

tomxtr 08-28-2005 08:34 PM

I've got a bad feeling about this. Considering NO is under sea level as it is and is surrounded on all sides by water, this could be disasterous. CNN has an interesting piece from the NO emergency management guy spelling out the doomsday scenario. Looks like this is the big one he described.

I hope I'm wrong.

How much force would it take to knock down the super dome?would this hurricane be capable?since there using it as a pretty big shelter.

I just had supper with some folks that came up to stay with a neighbor. They live right next to one of the levies in NOLA. They were talking about a scenario that the local news was giving that if the storm hits just right it will flood the city and that it could take six months to pump it dry. For those that don't know New Orleans is in a bowl and the city has pumping stations all around that have to pump water out even when it rains hard.

BTW - i just saw on the Weather Channel - Last year's biggest storm (Charlie) was a Category 4 and the storm center (the part of the storm that has hurricane force winds) was 45 miles across. Katrina is a Cartegory 5, the winds are stronger, and it is 205 miles across in the storm center!!! HOLY MOLY!! Plus it's forward movement is real slow so it is just gonna hang around and beat everything to death for alot longer than the storms we had last year.

*edit* these guys from NOLA said the Superdome roof is designed for 130 mph winds - Katrina is 165 mph +

If the roof was blown off that could be absolutely horrific. If you go to cnn.com, they have the worst case scenario video, its pretty bad(won't let me get a link. rolleyes: )

Paintballr 08-28-2005 08:52 PM

Well the panthers might have to play NO twice in carolina if the superdome is gone

Doctor Duffy 08-28-2005 09:04 PM

Christ man, not only that, they're deep below sea level. Deep.
