Cannabis Now Top Canadian Cash Crop

[quote:1e4b3]Cannabis Now Top Canadian Cash Crop

Ottawa, Ontario: Cannabis has surpassed wheat as Canada's most lucrative agricultural crop, Bloomberg News Wire reported last week. The report estimated Canada's illicit cannabis market to be worth $8.5 billion annually, approximately three times the size of Canada's largest legal crop.

"Only by enacting a system whereby cannabis is taxed and regulated in a manner similar to alcohol can Canada begin to capitalize on the revenue generated by this booming multi-billion dollar underground economy," NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre said.

Last year, a report published by the Vancouver-based economic think-tank The Fraser Institute estimated that taxing cannabis would generate $2 billion per year in federal revenues.

More recently, a US economic analysis estimated that legalizing cannabis would yield $6.2 billion in annual revenue if it were taxed at rates comparable to those imposed upon alcohol and tobacco.

A previous report by the NORML Foundation estimated the annual value of the US cannabis retail market at $25 billion.

I agree with legalizing pot.

I can tell you that I have never smoked pot in my entire life, but I really don't have a problem with it. I would support a bill legalizing it.

It really makes no sense to have it illegal. Think about when Alcohol was prohibited. Criminals made a living off of selling booze. I don't really think there are that many criminals now a days making booze because it's legal. If you legalize pot, there won't be any grow ops in the suburbs and subsequently less crime as a result of growing it.

I agree with legalizing pot if it isn't more expensive than what I pay on the street.

The only reason why it hasnt been legalized is because of the US. They are threatening to slow down the boarders if it happens.

I see no problem with it being regulated like achohol is. The only thing stopping it is there is no roadside testing to tell if you are driving under the influence. The only tests availble today just shows if you used it within the last 30 days. There are lots of comapnies that wouldnt like it though. If it is in my system id lose my job and getting high just isnt worth it.

yeah but then we'd have even fatter, and lazier fuckers driving SUVS into micky Ds like all the time. we gotta get the obesity epidemic undercontrol before we start to legalize pot, plus by then most of the old fuckers will die.

Pretty much all my friends smoke pot. None of them have a weight problem.

It's a popular misconception that smoking pot makes you overweight due to the "munchies." It's just not true.
